Steve tossed his bags onto the ground, his usually dull eyes flickering with a rare sharpness. “If we don’t go, our son is finished. If you’re not going to her, then that only leaves Sevina. Do you really dare to mess with that lunatic?”
A shudder of fear ran through her. Meghan shook her head frantically. “No, we can’t go to her! She’ll kill us!”
Trying to calm herself, she hesitated again. “But the Sylvester family warned us. They paid us five million to cut all ties with Aurora and made it clear we’re not allowed to contact or disturb her. If they find our-
“You dumb’ss,” Steve snapped. “You should’ve just kept your mouth shut. The Sylvester family is loaded. They hand out millions every month as pocket money. Aurora is our flesh and blood–it’s only right that she takes care of us. Who do they think they are, cutting us off like that?”
His eyes turned icy cold. “First, we need to come up with five million to bail Brody out and bring him back to the city. After that. Aurora can buy us a house and a car, and we’ll settle down here for good.”
The Sylvester family had already given them five million, plus the two million Aurora had left behind, bringing their total to Seven million.
For an average family, seven million was more than enough to live comfortably. So, Steve wasted no time building a small mansion in town and even bought two cars.
But Brody got into gambling. He stole money from home and within a month lost three million. Worse yet, he racked up another seven million in debt to the casino.
The casino had given him two weeks to pay up. If he failed, they’d break his hands,
Left with no other choice, Steve sold their house and cars, scraped together two million, and handed it over to the casino. Then, without a second thought, he grabbed Meghan and headed straight to the city in search of their daughter, Aurora
That girl had always been softhearted. Even after being adopted by a wealthy family, she still snuck back to see them, leaving behind two million
Since she carried his blood, Steve thought it was only fair she supported him.
“Let’s go!” He turned and walked away.
Meghan hurried after him.
Unbeknownst to them, a figure with a limp slowly emerged from the shadows. He watched them disappear into the distance, the corners of his lips curling into a cold, mocking smile. Then, with his uneven gait, he trailed after them.
By the time Roseanne had her phone repaired, the sun was already setting. She rubbed her fingers against the smooth screen and powered it on. Immediately, a new message appeared.
It was sent half an hour ago.
Zachary: Rosie, Mom’s going to see you. She’s probably there to apologize. I had to rush back to the office for an emergency. If you don’t want to see her, just don’t open the door.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Roseanne pulled up the surveillance footage and saw Claire and Raymond standing outside.
“Mom, you could’ve just called,” Raymond muttered, sounding annoyed. “There was no need to come all this way. I haven’t even finished my homework yet!”
Since his family wouldn’t let him dye his hair, Raymond settled for styling it in loose curls. His bangs were a bit long, but they couldn’t hide the pride and stubborn defiance in his eyes. Right now, he was filled with frustration and confusion.
Claire glanced at him, her eyes red–rimmed. “What do you know? Rosie calls me “Milin. Claire‘ now. She doesn’t call me ‘Mom‘ anymore. I was the one who wronged her”

Watching his mother fight back tears again, Raymond sighed and raised a hand “Mom, I’m sorry, okay? I was wrong Jour don’t cry. I’m here with you”
Claire sniffled, pressing the doorbell again. “Could Rosie not be home?
Raymond scoffed. “We’re not close. How would I know?”
Inside, Roseanne sat motionless for five minutes, waiting for them to leave.
Raymond grew impatient. “Mom, stop ringing. She’s obviously not here”
Claire remained steadfast. “Then I’ll just wait here until Rosie gets back.”
Raymond said nothing in response.
Roseanne rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. Finally, she got up from her bed and made her way to the front door.
The moment Claire saw her, her face lit up. “RosietTM
Roseanne’s expression remained neutral. “Do you need something, Mdin. Claire?”
Hearing that cold address again, Claire flinched, a faint tremor running through her body..
Raymond’s expression darkened, his tone sharp. “Roseanne! If you were home this whole time, why didn’t you open the door sooner? You made Mom wait outside for nothing! What’s wrong with you?”
“Did I make her wait?” Roseanne asked abruptly.
Both of them froze. One was overcome with grief, feeling like the sky had collapsed. The other stood rigid, face stormy with
anger.
Claire reached for Roseanne’s hand, her own trembling. “Rosie, I was wrong,” she admitted. “I shouldn’t have doubted you t shouldn’t have suspected you of pushing Aury. You helped her. You even stood up to Howard for her. But I misjudged you. Can you forgive me? I promise it won’t happen again.”
Perhaps it was the pull of blood ties, but for a brief moment, a pang of bitterness flickered in Roseanne’s heart. Then, just as quickly, it vanished.
Raymond had never seen his mother so humbled before, and it made him deeply uncomfortable. “Mom already apologized. What more do you want?” he snapped. “So she made one mistake–it’s not the end of the world. Why are you making such big deal out of it?”

Roseanne’s voice was ice–cold. “So what if I am? What are you going.
Raymond’s fists clenched. “You just can’t stand the fact that people treat my sister well, can you? You always have to be the center of attention! Let me tell you something–blood ties mean nothing. Aurora is loved because she’s kind and gentle. Even if she’s not related to us by blood, she’s still part of the Sylvester family. She’s still our parents‘ daughter, still my older brother’s little sister, still my sister.
He continued, “We made a mistake, and we’ve been making it up to you ever since! Mom and Dad are constantly worried about upsetting you. Zachary even neglects Aurora for you. If you want to marry Brandon, then marry him. If you want divorce him, then divorce him. After everything we’ve done, what more are you still unsatished wither
By the end, he was practically yelling
He had seen firsthand how everyone tiptoed around Roseanne. Even Aurora looked guilty, terrified of upsetting her Even though he didn’t like her, he put up with it. He kept his distance and avoided saying anything cruel. But no matter how mod they gave, it was never enough
Roseanne met his furious gaze, her tone rerily calm. “You want to know what I’m dissatisfied with? Fine, I’ll tell you Everything you’ve done–who, besides yourselves, has it actually
“Did I ask you to tread lightly around me? Should I be grateful for your self–imposed sacrifices A bitter smirk played on her lips. “I only stayed in the Sylvester residence for a mouth Don’t act like you gave me the world”

Lowering her gaze. Roseanne pushed Claire’s hand away. “It doesn’t matter to me whether you’re here or not.”

Raymond’s expression hardened. “Isn’t the apartment you’re living in now paid for with the Sylvester family’s money? Your clothes, bags, jewelry–aren’t they all-
“Shut up!” Claire flinched as if struck, her mind snapping back to reality. “Rosie hasn’t spent any of the Sylvester family’s money. She bought her condominium with her own savings. Not only did she return the fifty million trousseau they gave her, but she also gave them an extra ten million back.”
That day, Roseanne hadn’t taken the card with her. Instead, it was Henry who took it. She either refused the money they offered or returned it.
Looking back on everything they had supposedly given Roseanne, aside from words of concern, Claire couldn’t find a single thing of real substance.
Moreover, she realized she had never truly trusted her daughter.
Raymond, oblivious to what had just dawned on his mother, asked blankly. “If she’s not using the Sylvester family’s money. then where is she getting it from? The Graham family?”
Claire was on the verge of breaking down, her tears streaming uncontrollably. “Rosie,” she pleaded. “I realized it too late. If you don’t want to call me ‘Mom, that’s fine. But at least give me a chance to make it up to you.”
“You’ve
never wronged me. so there’s nothing to make up for.
“No, I was wrong?”
Watching her biological mother cry, Roseanne’s fingers curled slightly. Her chest felt heavy, but she knew she couldn’t afford to make another mistake.
The Sylvester family wasn’t right for her.
Roseanne met Claire’s eyes and asked. “Do you really want me to come back?”
Claire thought there was hope and quickly nodded.
Roseanne spoke slowly, her words deliberate. Then disown Aurora. Chase her out of the Sylvester residence, and I will come back”
