By the time Claire gathered her thoughts, that same indifferent voice rang out again. “Mdm. Claire, what you’re worried about won’t happen.”
Claire’s tear–filled eyes froze. “What did you just call me?”
Roseanne rarely addressed Claire as “Mom,” but when necessary, she wouldn’t stay silent. Yet this time, she called her “Mdm. Claire.”
Claire wasn’t sure what she had done wrong.
Is it wrong for a mother to discipline her daughter?
“She’s saying she won’t call you ‘Mom‘ anymore. She won’t return to the Sylvester family, isn’t that right? Trovan sneered at Roseanne, his voice dripping with mockery.
Who would willingly walk away from the Sylvester family! She’s only doing this to manipulate Claire, to make her feel guilty.
Zachary’s brows knitted together, his fists tightening. A heavy weight settled in his chest. “Since Aury is fine, I’ll take Rosie home first.
Claire frowned, oblivious to how serious the situation had become. Instead, she complained, “Aury just woke up–she needs company. Can’t you stay a little longer?”
She was alone here with her husband’s younger brother, watching over their daughter. If word got out, it wouldn’t look good.
Zachary hadn’t considered that, but without another word, he grabbed Roseanne’s hand. “Rosie, let’s go.”
Aurora watched them leave, sadness welling up in her chest. Yet, she felt she didn’t have the right to feel sad. That was Roseanne’s biological brother. She had thought they could get along.
As she was pulled out of the ward, Roseanne felt dazed. Walking down the hallway, she looked up at the broad figure ahead of her. “Do you think I pushed Aurora?”
Zachary slowed his pace to walk beside her. “If you really wanted to push her, you wouldn’t have brought her to the hospital. And you wouldn’t have denied it.”
“You were at the sales office. Are you buying a house? You’re not planning on going back to the Sylvester residence?”
Roseanne let out a soft hum in agreement. “I don’t like it there.”
“That’s your home too.” Zachary reached out, gently ruffling her hair.
A flicker of unease passed through Roseanne. She wanted to pull away but ultimately restrained herself. “That’s not my home.”
Zachary fell silent. He didn’t argue. From her perspective, the Sylvester residence probably didn’t feel like home at all. “Are you looking at a two–hundred–square–meter condominium in Royale Villa?”
“I just want a bigger place, one with a training room and an art studio.”
Rosie paints
Zachary was caught off guard. When she first returned to the Sylvester family, she had brought very few belongings–not even art supplies.
50, she never planned to stay long.
Or maybe she had waited to see how they treated her before deciding whether to stay. But in the end, they had only disappointed her

Tll buy it for you. It won’t cost the Sylvester family anything,” he said
Roseanne’s voice was calm, stating a simple fact. “Any money you spend will still be tied to the Sylvester name. I don’t like that Don’t worry–I’ve got a couple billion lying around. Once my divorce is finalized, I’ll have one and a half billion Azanian currency”
Zachary was stunned. “One and a half billion… Azanian currency?”
“Yeal. I invested five hundred million into Graham Group. I own four percent of the shares. At its current valuation, that’s what it’s worth. So, you don’t have to worry–1 can take care of myself without the Sylvester family”
The Sylvester family wasn’t one of Yolham’s oldest prominent family. They hail only risen to prominence in recent decadey They weren’t on the same level as the Parker and Zabel families, but they were still among the wealthiest business lar
The Sylvesters ran a tight ship. They didn’t raise their children to be spoiled, Allowances were equal for all, and the family: didn’t interfere too much when it came to investments or business ventures.
It was common for family members to have a few hundred million stashed away. But billions? That was unexpected.
For the first time, Zachary realized his sister, who had returned after twenty years, didn’t need their help at all. He wanted to say something, but then he noticed Roseanne staring blankly ahead.
Following her gaze, he saw two doctors approaching.
“Dr. Cooper, one of them reported, “there’s a critical patient in Ward 501. Forehead injury. The family insists there must be no scarring”
Thomas Cooper stopped in his tracks, his voice tinged with disbelief. “You’re calling me for a minor scrape? I have a major surgery to perform”
“The director insisted, the nurse explained. “The patient is an investor in our hospital.
The patient in Ward 501 was none other than Aurora.
Thomas was a well–known dermatologist. Since the Sylvester family had invested in this hospital, the director wasn’t taking any chances. He had immediately called for Thomas,
Thomas looked annoyed and was about to turn and leave, but then his eyes landed on something–or someone. He froze. Two whole seconds passed before he moved again.
The nurse nudged him. “Dr. Cooper, let’s just make a quick round to Ward 501. You’ll still have time for your surgery.”
Thomas glanced away. “Find someone else. I’m not wasting my time on something that minor.” With that, he strode off.
The nurse followed, muntering, “You had time to check out a pretty girl, but you can’t spare a moment for a patient? It’s just a few steps away.”
Thomas shot her a look. “Don’t talk nonsense. That girl just reminded me of someone I treated as a child. I was caught off guard
“Yeah, yeah. Explanations are just cover–ups, and cover–ups mean you’re guilty. I’ve been at this hospital for ten years, and I’ve never seen a kid who looks like that young woman.”
“That was fifteen years ago. Thomas said. “Back when I was just a small–town doctor.
The nurse gasped. “You’ve been keeping track of a child for fifteen years? I should tell your wife–you sound suspicious.”
Thomas scoffed. “My wife knows. That poor girl was nearly burned alive by her own parents for insurance money. She barely escaped. If she’s still alive, she should be twenty–two by now”
“Oh my God that actually happened?”
As Thomas disappeared down the hall. Zachary turned back to Roseanne. “Rosie, do you know that doctor?”
Roseanne didn’t answer directly. “I thought you’d stop him, and ask him to check on Aurora”

Zachary gave a resigned smile. “Is that how you see me, Rosie!”
“Yeah”
“Then I’ll have to change that.”
“Good luck,” she said dryly.

Their conversation was flat, almost mechanical. But Zachary took what he could get. It was already progress that she was even talking to him. “Let me take you home, he offered.
“All right.”
On the way, he bought her the latest smartphone
When they arrived, Roseanne turned to him. “Thanks. I’ll head up now.” She shut the door behind her without looking back.
Zachary, who had hoped for an invitation inside, fell silent. If he wanted to repair his relationship with his sister, he’d have to try harder.
Turning away, he pulled out his phone. “Find out what really happened at the sales office today,” he ordered his assistant. “And send Xander to Xatbridge. Look into Rosie’s past
The assistant hesitated. “Boss, didn’t we already investigate Ms. Roseanne?”
“The reports could have been fake. Dig into Mr. and Mrs. Yates–find out how they really treated her.”
Something about Thomas reaction unsettled Zachary
Almost burned alive for insurance money…
His hands trembled on the steering wheel. He didn’t dare let his thoughts go any further.
Perhaps it wasn’t as he had imagined.
