The Divorce You Ch 26

The Divorce You Ch 26

Chapter 26

The bar was designed to be spacious and luxurious. There were only four stalls in the firstfloor restroom

But the good thing was that the interior of each stall was pretty roomy. Even if two people were in one stall, it would still feel pretty spacious

People kept coming in, looking for an open stall. It seemed like there were quite a few of them. Soon, the other three stalls were occupied, and more people were still searching

Is the last stall taken?a girl asked, glancing at the door

I think I saw someone go in there just now, another girl replied, squinting at the closed door

“I didn’t see anyone..

  1. e. Should I just knock and check the first girl advised, stepping closer

Sure, the other girl agreed with a shrug

Upon hearing this, Daphne’s eyes widened in panic. She quickly reached out and pressed against the door, hoping to block anyone from pushing it

The girls walked up to the door and knocked gently. Is anyone in there?one of them said

Daphne pushed hack against the door and whispered in a low voice, Yes, someone’s in here.”

The girl outside immediately apologized. Oh, sorry! My bad!”

Sorry about that!the other girl said, stepping back

Daphne didn’t want to engage any further. She just mattered, It’s okay? Then she let out a quiet sigh of relief

Thank goodness they only knocked. If someone pushed really hard and I couldn’t hold it, I’d be done for; she thought

Later, more and more girls kept coming in to freshen up and fix their makeup. It was probably close to peak time

Daphne couldn’t find a chance to slip out. She had to stay on high alert, making sure no one pushed the door open. The intense focus quickly made

e no one pur her feel uneasy

She leaned against the door and massaged her temples with her fingerups, trying to calm herself down

when she looked up, she saw Yancey across from her, looking totally relaxed. He was even taking out a cigarette and a lighter from his pocket as if he had all the time in the world

He’s the one who caused all this trouble, and he’s not even feeling guilty Annow he has the nerve to light up a cigarette right here? she thought to

Daphne’s anger flared up instantly. She reached out and snatched the cigarette and lighter from his hand, glaring at him fiercely. She mouthed the words. If you dare smoke(I’ll kick you out right now!”

If he was going to push her, she was ready to throw caution to the wind and let everyone bugh at them

Yancey didn’t expect Daphine to react like that. He stood there for a few seconds, frozen, trying to process what had just happened. His face was unreadable as he muttered, What’s this? You’re trying to act all innocent now!”

He knew Daphne smoked. He didn’t understand why she was suddenly stopping him from doing the same

Daphne shot him a glare that could’ve burned a hole in him. Mind your own business!”

Without saying another word, she grabbed the pack of cigarettes and dumped them straight into the toilet. With her foot, she flushed, watching them swirl down the drain. There was no way Yancey was smoking those now

After all that, Daphne handed the lighter back to him. I’ll pay you back for the cigarettes when we’re out. I’m not going to owe you anything, she

Yapory curled his lips

into a slight smile, but his eyes were cold. How do you plan on paying me back

Daphne didn’t bother answering. She made a zipping motion with her hands, signaling for Yancey to shut up and stop talking nonsense

be hathurtson wasn’t bad at blocking sound, but it want perfect. No matter how good the soundproofing was, it couldn’t block everything. If they weren’t careful and spoke too loud, prople outside would lizar dheni

If anyone caught them in the same stall, they’d never be able to clear their names again

Chapter 26

Yancey caught on to what Daphne meant. He wasn’t stupid enough to let that happen. So, he leaned quietly against the wall, waiting for his chance to leave

It seemed like they’d reached a temporary Inace, but outside, things were getting tense

Someone outside called out impatiently, “Why is every stall occupied?”

Should we just go to the second floora girl asked, shifting from foot to fool

Let’s wait a bit. I think the person in the last stall is about to come out, the first girl advised

When Daphne heard them talk about waiting for the last stall, slie silently sighed and thought, Great. You can wait until the cows come home. I’m still not coming out.”

The voices outside continued. Why don’t we just go to the second floor?a girl asked

Why? Just wait a little longer, another girl said

That last one has been locked forever. No one’s coming out someone said

Do you think the person inside passed out?a lady gasped

The conversation was getting louder, and someone started walking toward their wall. Daphne could door, right outside the stall

Dupline’s heart started pounding. She gripped the doorknob tightly, biting her lip and silently cursing Yancey under her breath

Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the bathroom stall door

The impact was so hard that Daphne almost lost her grip on the door. A small crack appeared, just enough to make her heart race

Someone’s in here!she whispered, gritting her teeth

From the other side, a voice sounded confused. Is someone talking?” a woman asked

There’s someone in there,” her friend mumbled

What’s going on Why are you taking so long to come out the woman asked, confused

Is everything okay? Do you need help? her friend asked

It was a bar, so emergencies weren’t a big deal. They’d seen everything, and they were usually quick to offer help if someone needed it

Terrified they’d burst in to help, Daphne panicked for a moment. She blurted out the first excuse she could think of. I’mconstipated?”

Oh the woman outside responded, sounding understanding

Cher friend echoed

The two of them exchanged a quick glance, trying to hold in their laughter

Daphne could feel Yancey’s eyes boring into her back, that unspoken judgment sending a shiver down her spine. She tensed up, her toes instancvely curling inside her shoes as if trying to escape the weigla of his stare

No matter how hard she tried to stay calm, the overwhelming feeling of social embarrassment hit her like a ton of bricks

She wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but eventually, everything outside grew quiet. Her nerves were still on edge, but the silence was at least

Yancey gently patted her shoulder, leaning in close to whisper, It’s clearhow”

Daphne blinked, anapping out of her tense state. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment to center herself before she slowly opened the stall door to prek outside

vas no one there now. There was only the faint sound of music and charter from the party beyond

She pushed the door open wider, feeling her body slowly relax as she stepped out. With a few quick strides, she turned to face Yancey Her face was

ixture of frustration and relief as she spoke

I think we’re on the same page here. Mr. Goodman We don’t need any more drama. Let’s just call today a mistake and move on. After this, no

Chapter 26

The atmosphere in the stall was tense, but it was also one of the rare moments they had together lately. Daphne knew she hadn’t exactly been friendly with Yancey recently, and she couldn’t deny it

Yancey stared at Daphne

at Daphne, his voice low and tense as he said, Is this really how you want to end things between us?”

Daphne gave him a sharp look, almost laughing Seriously? You think I divorced you just to play hard to get

If she hadn’t been so heartbroken and disappointed, she never would have ended things with a divorce

Vanory bit his lip, staring at her but saying nothing

As thoughts of their failed marriage ran through her mind, Daphne’s face grew colder. The warmth in her eyes vanished as she looked at him. leaving nothing behind but cold indifference

I don’t know what you’re thinking, she said, her voice cutting through the air. But just so you know, we’re done. We have no connection anymore. So, even if I start dating someone new every day, it’s none of your business,”

Yancey furrowed his brows. He almost asked her if she didn’t feel anything for him, but the words never left his mouth. Instead, he growled, his voice harsh. I won’t let you destroy the Goodman Group’s or the Shaw family’s reputation”

Daphne flicked a few droplets of water off her hand and scoffed. Mr. Goodman, don’t make me think you’re disgusting.”

Without another word, she turned and walked away, never looking back
