Chapter 6 Mr Channing Is a Kind Man
Chapter 6 Mr Channing Is a Kind Man
Shane gazed thoughtfully at the dark night from the window and voiced his thoughts.
“I just have a feeling, but it’s better to check just in case. Also, you should follow up on Frank too”
Twenty minutes later, Ms. Long arrived with the prepared meal.
The aroma of the food filled the room, reaching Celia’s nose and reminding her that she had not eaten all day.
As she licked her lips, tears welled up in her eyes.
Seeing Celia’s emotional reaction, Ms. Long understood that she must have faced hardships, forgetting to eat while struggling.

Feeling a lump in her throat, Ms. Long offered a gentle smile and urged, “Ms. Durban, there’s no one else here. Please, have your meal.
Gratefully accepting the food, Celia began wolfing it down.
However, tears began to stream down her cheeks before she could finish a few bites.
Ms. Long felt sorry for her and hurriedly handed her a tissue.
“Ms. Long. I really appreciate it, Celia’s voice choked up, warmth spreading through her body.
After Celia finished eating, Ms. Long headed out of the room with the dishes just as she encountered Shane at the study door.
Despite the late hour, Mr. Channing showed no signs of resting.
“How is Ms. Durban?” Shane inquired slowly, eyeing the empty dishes in Ms. Long’s hands.
“She’s already asleep,” Ms. Long responded respectfully, meeting his gaze. “It seems Ms. Durban didn’t eat the entire day, and she cried a lot while she ate.”
Shane’s eyes briefly registered surprise at her words,
- ee. You can go downstairs now. Rest early, and prepare some light meals for her tomorrow morning.
I see.
“Understood, Sir, Ms. Long nodded before descending the stairs.
Shane cast a lingering glance towards the guest room before proceeding to the bedroom on the third floor.
The next morning, Celia awoke to find the sun already high in the sky.
Whether it was the effect of the medicine or sheer exhaustion, she had slept soundly through the night.
Feeling lighter and with the fever seemingly subsided, she sat up in bed and reached for her phone to check the time, only to find it powered off due to the low battery.
Rifling through her bag, she breathed a sigh of relief upon finding the charger tucked inside.
After plugging in her phone, she realised it must have died overnight, causing her to miss any calls from Ms. Weckley.
Ms. Weekley must have been worried sick, so Celia resolved to call her back as soon as possible.
After she went into the bathroom, Celia caught sight of her haggard reflection in the mirror, along with the oversized shirt she had been lent. Despite the circumstances, she could not help but smile wryly at the sight.
She never imagined that she, the daughter of a wealthy family and the CEO of a listed company, would one day find herself
in such a situation

After freshening up, Celia powered on her phone and immediately dialled Ms. Weekley’s number.
“Hello? Miss, is that you Ms. Weekley’s worried voice came through the phone.
“Yes, it’s me, Ms. Weekley, Celia replied, tears welling up in her eyes.

“Thank goodness. Hearing your voice puts my mind at ease! Where were you last night?” Ms. Weekley’s voice also trembled with emotion.
“Mr. Channing saved me, and I’m not sure where I am right now, but I’m still staying at his house,” Celia explained softly, glancing out the window.
“Oh, that’s a relief. Mr. Channing seems like a kind person!”
After a moment’s pause, Ms. Weekley continued, “I’ve sent you my address. You can come over now.”
“Thank you, Ms. Weekley, Celia replied gratefully.
After hanging up the phone, Celia requested a few days off from K Magazine and then headed downstairs.
As she wandered around, she took in her surroundings. The villa had three stories, with about five or six rooms on each floor.
The living room boasted a magnificent crystal chandelier that hung from the ceiling over ten metres high, exuding grandeur and luxury.
The retro furniture and decor, adorned with elegant colours, showcased the owner’s opulence and refinement, creating a cosy atmosphere.
Who is this Mr. Channing exactly!
“Morning, Ms. Durban! You’re awake.” Ms. Long, bustling around in the living room, greeted Celia with a smile as soon as she saw her.
“Morning, Ms. Long, Celia replied with a light smile.
The warmth she felt from Ms. Long’s attentive care the night before lingered as she greeted her
again.
“Have a seat,” Ms. Long guided her to the dining table. I was about to check on you upstairs, but Mr. Channing said not to disturb you and to let you sleep in a bit longer before he left.”
Mr. Channing seemed distant and reserved, but could he also have a caring side?
“Ms. Durban, we prepared all these dishes early this morning, following Mr. Channing’s instructions, Ms. Long said as she swiftly brought the food to the table.
“I’ve worked here for three years, and you’re the only woman he’s ever brought home. It seems you’re pretty special.”
Given their chance encounter, it seemed unlikely that there could be anything special between them.
Celia quickly denied, “No, no, no, Ms. Long, you’re overthinking it. This is the first time we met.
“I passed out after he saved me. Maybe he brought me here because he’s kind.”
Ms. Long simply smiled and remained silent, seeing it differently.
Suddenly, Celia’s eyes lit up with curiosity as she leaned in and asked softly, “Ms. Long, I realised I don’t even know Mr. Channing’s name after he saved me yesterday.
“Could you tell me if that’s okay? I really want to thank him properly.”
“Oh, right,” Ms. Long’s face brightened as if she had remembered something important. She then walked over to the coffee table in the living room and grabbed a business card.
“Here you go. This is what Mr. Channing left for you before he left. He said you could reach out if you needed anything.

“Also, he mentioned that you should rest here for the day. He’ll be back in the evening and wants to talk to you about something
Taking the business card, Celia’s heart skipped a beat when she saw the name “Shane Channing printed on it
Shane Channing? That Shane Channing
She remembered seeing his photo during her time at K Magazine, which explained why he seemed familiar yesterday
Shane was a well–known figure in Kordale, heading the Elite Group, a global business empire.
Given his family background, it made sense for him to live in such an upscale place.
Her father had often praised Shane’s business acumen, describing him as a top–notch professional with exceptional skills.
“Got it, thanks, Ms. Long Celia nodded, collecting her thoughts and focusing on her food.
In his CEO’s office at Elite Group. Shane had just wrapped up a meeting and settled into his desk when his phone rang. It was his grandmother.
“Hey, Grandma. Why are you calling me at this hour? Is everything alright?” He asked a hint of concern in his voice.
The aroma of the food filled the room, reaching Celia’s nose and reminding her that she had not eaten all day.
