Alana’s expression turned grim as she peered into the rearview mirror, “I don’t understand. Do you know how dangerous your actions today? Instead of explaining to me, you come to question me?”
She observed that Rowan not only has a brilliant mind but has also became more courageous
Rowan looked guilty when he heard this. He muttered in a low voice, “I just wanted to find my dad.”
“But you’re still a kid. This city is a new place for you, and you’re unfamiliar with the neighbourhood. How could you go out alone? Do you know how anxious I was! And you even went directly to the Elite Group..
Alana paused abruptly, her surprise evident as she looked back again.
“How did you know that place?”
According to the surveillance video retrieved from the police station, Rowan switched multiple cars along his trip but didn’t do additional stops before arriving at the Elite Group Elite Group Tower was his only destination.
“Mommy, didn’t you see the Channings‘ symbol on the inside of that emerald bracelet? I also found Mr. Channing’s picture online
I think I look a little like him. What do you think?”
Rowan’s clear eyes met Alana’s gaze.
Alana’s realization struck her. How had she missed that connection? She saw the three children all looked like her.
“No. Rowan, you think so much. Having you guys was purely accidental, and Mummy still doesn’t know who that man is. Me and Shane used to know each other, but we were just friends. He’s already had a wife and children, so let’s not disturb him.
In order to prevent Rowan from finding out about his dad, Alana had to reveal a brief truth.
“What? You don’t know? Then we Are we illegitimate children Rowan’s eyes turned red and widened in disbelief.
He had always assumed he didn’t have a father because of the conflict between his parents. That’s why his mother refused to acknowledge his father. He never anticipated this revelation.
Alana frowned while she glanced at the rearview mirror again, “Are you
upset?
Afraid that his mother would be sad, Rowan quickly denied, “No, I am already very happy. I just need time to accept it. Mom, don’t worry. I’ll never try to find my father again. I did something wrong today, and I apologise!”
“You are a good child because you know your mistakes and are willing to amend them. A smile finally appeared on Alana’s lips. “I hope you will keep this truth a secret from others. It’s just between you and me.”
“Yes, I will,” Rowan responded sincerely.
He understood whom his mother referred to as “others.”
Rowan gazed down, experiencing a flood of emotion in his heart. He had no idea what his mother had been through all these years, but he knew she had encountered several problems while raising the three of them alone.
He secretly resolved to find that man and confront him about why he didn’t want his mother, causing her so much anguish.
He knew he had to do it secretly, unlike today.
At this time, the phone rang. Felicia was calling her.
Alana put on her Bluetooth earphones and picked up the call, switching to her usual tone. “Hello? Felicia”
“Where are you now, Alana! I’ve finished my job and already made a reservation at the restaurant. Should I come pick you guys up or send you the address so you can come on your own?” Felicia’s voice was filled with excitement.
“Felicia, there was a minor issue today. Can you check if you can cancel with the restaurant so we can go tomorrow instead?” Alana provided a quick account of the day’s happenings.
