Shane escorted Celia to the entrance of Amaryllis Haven. As soon as Celia stepped out of the car and entered the house, he signalled for the driver to turn around and depart.
After returning to her room and taking a nap. Celia woke up, had lunch, and soon received a call from her best friend. Felicia Caddel.
“Celia, I was away on a business trip for a few days. How is it that so much has unfolded in my absence, and all seemingly at
once?”
Upon hearing Celia’s recollection, Felicia’s eyes widened in disbelief as she inquired
Celia replied with a sense of helplessness, “Indeed. I haven’t quite wrapped my mind around everything yet. There’s a lingering suspicion within me that there might be someone pulling the strings behind these events, orchestrating them, yet cluding my grasp
“Have you ever thought about Samantha? She was the one who put in a good word for you when you interned at K Magazine. and her friend, Crystal, holds a position there as deputy editor. Felicia proposed, weaving together the connections
The realization struck Celia like a bolt from the blue, dawning upon her with startling clarity.
“When I return to the K Magazine, I’ll delve into this matter thoroughly.” Celia asserted.
Regarding her father’s car accident, she would have to wait until she settled back into her job before delving into it.
After a moment of silence, Felicia clenched her teeth and uttered. “I’ve never placed my trust in Samantha. Perhaps she harboured ulterior motives from the very beginning when she reached out to you?”
Celia chuckled softly, “What possible benefit could she have in involving me?
“How come you don’t have one? Your boyfriend, isn’t he already won over by her?” Felicia said
“Let’s not dwell on him. The mere thought of him now fills me with disgust. Celia’s eyes darkened, a hint of disdain crossing her features.
Chase had tried calling her multiple times in recent days, but she had ignored all his attempts and blocked his number.
In her Instagram inbox, there were several messages from him, all of which she had left unread. Moreover, she had taken the step of removing him from her friends list.
“Alright, I won’t mention him again.” Felicia promised, her tone remorseful. She continued, “Celia, I’m genuinely sorry. 1 wasn’t there for you when you needed me the most, nor did I offer you my support. I’ve been consumed by guilt since I got back. If only I had been aware sooner. I wouldn’t have argued with the station and embarked on this trip.”
At the words, a mist of uncertainty clouded Celia’s eyes. “Life is unpredictable. None of us can predict what tomorrow will bring.”
In a moment of realization, she released a soft sigh. “Even if you were here, there wouldn’t have been much you could do. My family is drowning in millions of debt. Your kindness alone means the world to me
“Where are you staying at the moment? If you need a place to stay, you’re more than welcome to come stay with me. I have a spare room here,” Felicia offered, wiping away the tears from her eyes.
“No, thank you. I’d prefer not to impose. I already have a place to stay,” Celia declined.
She proceeded to recount how she had encountered Shane and subsequently entered into a contract with him.
“What? You were recently betrayed by your boyfriend, lost your virginity, and now you’ve signed a three–month contract with a stranger. Celia, this is…”
Felicia’s words were cut off as her eyes widened suddenly, and she exclaimed. “Wait, did you say the man is Shane Channing? The wealthiest man in Kordale?”

Celia acknowledged with a casual smile. “Yes, we both gain something from this arrangement, so I don’t perceive it as a loss.”
“Shane is undoubtedly charming, talented, and affluent, a fitting companion for you. Yet, rumors speak of his aloof nature, and his reluctance to let others in, especially women. His family history is intricate, akin to navigating uncharted waters. You should be careful. Felicia cautioned
In a hushed tone, Celia murmured, “Despite his family’s intricacies, it’s merely a three–month contract, just a facade. Please don’t fret. I’ll take care of myself.”
Despite Shane’s wealth and charm, their relationship remained purely transactional.
Yet, in return for his aid, she pledged to fulfil her role with unwavering dedication.
Following a brief conversation, they concluded the call, and shortly after. Amy knocked on the door before entering.
Entering the room with a selection of outfits in hand, she greeted Celia with a warm smile, saying. Ms. Durban, Mr. Channing has sent these three dresses for you to consider wearing for the Channings visit tomorrow.”
What Shane had gone to the extent of purchasing clothes for me. Was that excessive!
However, given that the clothes were already present, she found herself unable to refuse. It appeared that he attached great significance to her accompanying him to his family.
Despite her affiliation with the Durbans, she typically didn’t give much thought to her attire. Her wardrobe mainly consisted of casual and work clothes, leaving her with a dearth of suitable outfits for a formal banquet.
“Alright. Thank you Ms. Long. You can leave them on the sofa, and I’ll try them on later, Celia replied gratefully.
After Amy departed, Celia turned to the internet in search of information about Shane’s family background. However, her efforts yielded only information about his younger sister. Luna Channing.
She couldn’t uncover any details about other family members. Was it were speculation from Felicia, or had Shame deliberately obscured information about his family!
The truth would only reveal itself when she visited the following day.
Despite any challenges she might encounter during the visit to the Channings, she was resolute in her determination to face them with courage.
Before dinner, Celia donned the three dresses sent by Shane, and to her satisfaction, each one draped her figure flawlessly.
Gazing at her reflection in the mirror, she contemplated with a furrowed brow
I had only been acquainted with Shane for a short while. How did he come to know my dress size?
Could it be that he deduced my dress size when he carried me after I fainted?
Regardless, his sense of style was impeccable. The dresses boasted elegant hues, and simple yet sophisticated designs, crafted from soft and comfortable materials–all perfectly aligned with my personal tastes.
Later that evening, Shane returned after ten o’clock.
Upon sporting the light still illuminated in Celia’s room, he surmised that she was still awake.
Once settled in his room, he sent her an Instagram message.
Have you tried the dresses on? Do they suit you?”
Celia promptly replied: Tve given them a try, and they fit flawlessly.
Shane replied: That’s reassuring. I have pressing engagements in the morning, so I’ll need to depart early. Nevertheless, I’ll have Alfred take you over first. Once I’m finished, I’ll join you promptly.
Celia replied: “Alright then”

The following day, following breakfast, Celia boarded Alfred’s car and journeyed towards the Channings villa.
Feeling a twinge of unease in Shane’s absence, she fretted about navigating the unfamiliar territory alone.
As they neared the villa, Shane suddenly called her, and she swiftly answered.
“Hello? Celia, where are you?”
“Alfred mentioned we’re nearly there, Celia replied.
“Alright. Don’t enter yet, wait for me outside. I’ll be there shortly. Shane instructed.
“Sure. Cella responded, feeling a sense of relief from just that single word.
Five minutes later, the car came to a halt in front of the villa. After confirming with Alfred, he drove away.
At that moment, a sleek black Bentley rolled up. Chase emerged, dressed sharply in a suit and leather shoes.
