The mastermind behind this scheme had unmistakably dispatched these operatives to target her. Should she ever unveil the truth, she swore not to let him escape retribution unscathed.
“Yesterday, when I ventured downstairs to purchase groceries, I spotted several dubious people who seemed to be tailing me. Did you happen to notice anything out of the ordinary when you arrived just now?”
Hallie paused, a fleeting expression of apprehension crossing her countenance.
Might those people be lurking nearby persistently, awaiting Miss’s appearance?
“Well I didn’t notice anything.”
Upon her earlier arrival in the residential area, her focus had been consumed by the task of finding Hallie’s house number, inadvertently lowering her guard
She had never expected those people to trail her to this particular location.
“When you leave later, make sure to be extra cautious,” Hallie said.
Celia responded. “Okay.”
Out of the blue, Hallie switched topics.
“Miss, is it true you entered a three–month contract with Mr. Channing?”
Early in the morning, she was surprised by Celia’s unexpected phone call and her decision.
Celia smiled with a hint of irony and replied at a measured pace, “Indeed. At present, it seems to be the sole solution to the urgent matter concerning the Durbans. Furthermore, I am inclined to reciprocate his kindness for coming to my aid.
Indeed, she held another intention. Nevertheless, it was unsuitable to divulge it to Hallie.
“Understood. I fully endorse your choice. Given his act of saving you and his willingness to aid the Durbans in clearing debts, expressing gratitude is only fitting,” said Hallie.
At that instant, Celia’s phone rang, leading her to pick it up and notice the name “Mr. Channing” illuminated on the screen.
Per their agreement the night before, she had affixed that name to his phone number.
She answered the call, “Hello?”
“Have you
obtained the suitcase?” Shane’s melodious voice echoed from the distant receiver.
“Yes, I possess it,” Celia affirmed.
“In that event, refrain from lingering outdoors. Make your way home promptly,” Shane advised.
Go home? His comforting and melodic voice unexpectedly ignited a feeling of warmth within her
Now, she had a place to call home again. Even though it was only for a fleeting three months, a hint of nostalgia washed over her.
“Understood. I’ll make my way back right away,” she affirmed.
After concluding the call, Hallie glanced at her with a smile. “Miss, was that Mr. Channing on the line?”
“Yeah”
This Mr. Channing is truly thoughtful. It seems he regards you highly,” Hallie remarked.
Reflecting on the butlet who had escorted her to the door and the recent conversation, Hallie even entertained a thought.

If Miss and Mr. Channing were to pretend to be affectionate, maybe it could result in a wonderful relationship
Celia simply gave a subtle smile, and avoided further discussion. She rose from the sofa, and took her leave.
“Ms. Weekley. I’m leaving now. I’ll come to visit whenever I get the chance,” Celia expressed before heading out
“Absolutely. Take care, Miss!” Hallie gently nudged Celia’s suitcase toward her and walked her to the door

As Celia and Alfred stepped out into the corridor outside Hallie’s residence, Alfred spotted the group of individuals they had encountered earlier
He was afraid of startling Celia, so he didn’t say anything and quickly pushed her suitcase forward.
Celia, too, observed the unusual circumstance and followed closely behind, remaining silence.
It was only then that she fully grasped the dangerous situation she was in.
All of Shane’s worries and plans had proven to be valid
Upon boarding the car, Alfred started the engine and promptly drove off
His concern was not for his own well–being but rather for Celia’s safety.
Therefore, avoiding their pursuers remained the primary objective.
Not long after the car set off, Alfred noticed a black sedan closely following them in the rearview mirror.
“Ms. Durban, please sit tight!” Alfred said to Celia in the back seat, then he increased the speed of the car.
Upon hearing this. Celia immediately grabbed the handle on the side of the car.
The car swerved onto a narrow pathway, making a flurry of sharp turns at junctions while picking up speed. Alfred adeptly outwitted the trailing sedan. eventually losing them altogether,
At last, the Maybach cruised effortlessly down the avenue, and Celia jolted back to the present with a horrified expression on her face
“Ms. Durban, are you okay?”
- I’m alright.” Celia casually adjusted her tousled hair and forced a smile, continued. “Alfred, I had no idea you were such a talented driver!”
“Oh, no. Ms. Durban, please don’t say that. My driving skills are far inferior to Mr. Mr. Channing’s Alfred said modestly.
Celia’s curiosity piqued as she observed Shane’s poised and understated demeanour, reminiscent of a seasoned official. Was he genuinely skilled behind the wheel?
Arriving at Amaryllis Haven, Celia barely had time to settle her suitcase in her room before she received another call from Shane.
“Hello? Celia, Alfred mentioned that a car was tailing you on the road earlier, are you okay?
It was the first time he had addressed himself directly by name. Celia’s heart raced a bit faster for some reason.
She could sense, without a doubt, that this was the most melodious utterance of her name she had ever heard in all her years.
“I’m good, thanks!” Celia replied promptly.
Thank goodness. Just stay indoors for a while. I’ve got this covered.” he assured over the phone, his voice retaining its charming and captivating tone
“Got it,” she agreed readily before expressing her worry. “What about Ms. Weekley? Do you reckon they’ll come looking for
Even though those thugs missed her earlier, if they doubled back to track down Hallie, wouldn’t she be at risk?

He’d already sent someone to keep an eye on them. If those thugs dared to come back, they’d be caught red–handed
His assurance lifted a burden from Celia’s shoulders.
“Okay then
Along the roadside, within a sleek black Audi, several men sat in quiet contemplation, their heads bowed
One of them reached for his phone and punched in a number.
“Sorry, Ms. Richardson! We lost sight of her,” he admitted with remorse.
Samantha on the other end of the line held back her frustration and asked in a soft tone, “Can you describe the man who was with her?”
“He’s a sturdy fellow in his forties, driving a black Maybach,” the man on the other end of the line replied.
Upon hearing this, Samantha’s brow furrowed.
Celia was full of surprises. It seemed I had underestimated her. Had she really gotten involved with an older man so quickly!
“Did you happen to catch the license plate number?” she asked eagerly, keen to uncover the man’s identity.
The man activated the speakerphone, transmitting Samantha’s voice clearly throughout the car, ensuring everyone could hear her without difficulty.
A quick glance at the others revealed that they were all shaking their heads in unison.
“No
Your meticulousness over trifles is commendable, but is this the limit of your prowess, despite your claims?” Samantha’s voice, tinged with irritation, reverberated through the phone.
An instant wave of tension swept through the car, rendering everyone breathless as they refrained from making even the slightest noise.
After a brief pause, the man holding the phone cautiously inquired in a subdued tone, “Ms. Richardson, what’s our next
move?”
