Lin Xue swiftly turned around, and stared straight at Hua Ranran who was lying on the bed, leaning against the headboard. Hua Ranran did not avert her gaze but instead welcomed it with her own, which subtly expressed her disappointment.
“Did you tell anyone?” Lin Xue asked. Her piercing glare was intimidating Hua Ranran.
“I did not. You are my mother so I would never tell anyone.” Hua Ranran pushed Lin Xue’s hand away from her pajamas and disappointedly stroked the edge of her pajamas. She had merely taken a guess and had not actually seen anything. She only suspected something when her mother was acting weird after their conversation over a meal, and did not expect it to be true.
“You have grown up, so I do not need to keep the truth from you anymore. It was Hua Fan who failed me. He married Sun Jiayue behind back, abandoning me in my hometown. Even if he returned and told me he did it for his future prospects, I would never forgive him. While he lives with Sun Jiayue and her daughter in their big warm house, has he ever thought of us? I have given him enough face by using his money prudently and not giving it to others.”
Lin Xue slowly sat down, her gaze unsteady, yet her voice revealed her long–suppressed mix of emotions of gloom, anger and indignance.
“Did Daddy not treat you well all these years?” Hua Ranran sat down facing her mother. She did not realize her mother had such thoughts. Moreover she could not understand why, as her parents always looked happy.
“Treat me well? I only want to have a better life, and not have you suffer anymore. I was first your father’s official girlfriend, but became the third party in the end and you became the illegitimate daughter. Although our reputation is still intact, it is still a thorn in my heart, always pricking me. How could I easily forget it?”
Lin Xue turned around to caress her daughter’s face and gently said, “I lowered my status for you. You must be careful when choosing a man. Don’t go for someone like Luotian who is easily shaken nor pit yourself against Hua Shengan for him. There will be better men. Just think of protecting yourself and don’t be concerned about other matters.”
“Then are we supposed to let Hua Shengan continue to sow discord at home? She said she saw you with another man. Is it alright to let Daddy know?”
Hua Ranran looked at her mother helplessly. She did not want her to be chased out of the house or even get herself involved. She did not want to return to the slums they previously lived. Looking at her mother, she subconsciously blamed her.
Lin Xue understood the emotions her daughter portrayed her gaze, and laughed. She unfolded the blanket and covered her. Looking at her straight in the eyes, she said in a serious tone, “Don’t worry, she would not stay happy forever. Wait till the whole Hua household belongs to you and there’s no one to compete with you. You will be the sole heir of the Hua family. Stay at home patiently and don’t stir up any problem. Understood?”
Hua Ranran’s eyes brimmed with excitement and hate. She did not think that her mother would harbor these thoughts. No wonder she did not admit her wrongdoings on the cruise, but only regretted and criticized herself for not being more decisive. She must have a plan!
“I did not say anything, and you did not hear anything. Understood?”

Lin Xue’s fierce gaze warned her, and before she left she exhorted her to wait patiently and steer away from causing trouble, as the Hua family sole heir would be her.
Meanwhile, at the hot springs, a man called out, “Yu, I’m here!” He had only a towel wrapped around his waist and sitting by the poolside, signaling towards the person at the door. His hair was wet and a few strands were stuck to his forehead. Although seemingly casual, he exhibited a sense of refinement.
“Chengjue, must you come so far for a bath? I am busy at the hospital!”
Jing Nanyu walked over in a bathrobe, and gave a knowing smile at the sight of the wine glass in Xiao Chengjue’s hand. He freely sat down by his side and poured himself a glass of wine. After drinking a sip of the wine, he looked at Xiao Chengjue silently.
“Why are you looking at me like this? The hospital won’t collapse without you. If I hadn’t asked you out for a breather, you would have ended up in a mental institution by now.”
Xiao Chengjue raised his wine glass as a gesture, and lifted his head and downed the glass easily. He put down the glass as he stood up, pulled away his towel and strode into the pool. He then rested his head on the pool wall in silence.
Jing Nanyu slightly frowned as he watched Xiao Chenjue. He filled up the empty wine glasses, held each in his hand, and moved towards him. Jing Nanyu said, “My hospital is a rehabilitation hospital which offers psychological treatment and not a mental institution. How about I let you have a try?”
“The day when I no longer recognize you, will be the day you will be treating me as your patient,” Xiao Chengjue replied, his eyes raised up, no longer looking at Jing Nanyu.
“As the hospital director, I don’t simply offer to treat just anyone. Once you miss it, that’s it.” He subtly took a sip of his wine and scanned Xiao Chengjue who was ignoring him.
“You asked me here not to watch you in the pool, right? I have a normal sexual preference.”
Jing Nanyu tried to draw him to talk and distract his focus as he saw how Xiao Chengjue was not paying him much attention and had spoken few words.
He continued, “Your mother called me yesterday to ask me if that starlet who just debuted was your girlfriend. I hadn’t started to reply and she already said she would be on her way to meet her daughter–in- law. You explain it to her yourself.”
“That’s so silly, if whoever I am spotted with is her future daughter–in–law, then how is only one set of her family heirloom enough?” They already know that I would never have real emotions for these women, much less touch them, so why do they still believe these rumors?
Xiao Chengjue frowned with frustration. He turned to his side to reach for his wine glass and swirled it around as he looked gloomy, as though dark clouds were shrouding his eyes.
“You haven’t gotten over of your mysophobia? I thought you drowned in a sea of women. Do you need me to teach you how to meet your physical needs?” Jing Nanyu joked.
Xiao Chengjue ran his finger across the rim of the cup and gave a faint sigh. “Yu, we are good friends and it’s rare to hear you talking about this. You are a true gentleman. I am fine. I just feel moody sometimes. I will feel better after a while.”
“I don’t talk about business, but if it is about life, you can always talk to me. Women cry and make a scene while talking about their issues. Us men don’t usually relieve our emotions, but drown our sorrows with alcohol,” Jing Nanyu said as he looked at the wine glass in Xiao Chengjue’s hand.

“I don’t do both of those. I only want to relax for a bit. Don’t start treating me as your patient. It’s an occupational hazard! It’s peaceful here so don’t ruin it with your talk. Pour the wine!” Xiao Chengjue replied.
