Chapter 8 Weak Little Thing
Melissa’s POV:
“That ring …
I had just started to speak when Leticia, sensing my intention, hurriedly cut me off.
“Melissa? What a surprise! I didn’t expect to run into you here.”
She quickly clung to Adrian’s arm and put on an overly familiar act. “Melissa, this is the man I told you about–the one I risked my life to save.”
Then she turned to Adrian and added sweetly, “Alpha, this is Melissa. I met her while doing delivery work as a way to experience life.”
Her shameless lies made my stomach turn.
For a moment, I was tempted to tear off that disgustingly fake mask she wore and expose her for what she was.
But I held back.
First, I didn’t have a wolf–there’s no way I could take her in a fight. Second, the only proof I had that I was the one who saved. Adrian was the ring, my name on the hospital records, and maybe the surveillance footage.
But if Leticia had been clever enough to steal the ring without raising suspicion and trick Adrian, then she must’ve already investigated the surveillance tapes and covered her tracks,
Most likely, the Dunnes had already destroyed the footage.
If I accused her now–even without makeup–there’d be no solid proof to show I was the one who saved Adrian.
So, I decided to wait and see.
“Is that so?”
Adrian’s sharp wolf eyes swept over me.
“Melissa, what a coincidence. I never expected to see you here, too. Do you know the Alpha?
“I seem to recall the Alpha saying his grandmother arranged a marriage for him. Could it be… the girl she picked was you? This weak little thing?”
She knew I didn’t have a wolf. That humans raised me. That I’d never trained in werewolf combat.
Calling me a “weak little thing” in front of everyone was a deliberate attempt to humiliate me.
I couldn’t be bothered to entertain Leticia and her over–the–top performance. Instead, I turned to Camila and said, “Mrs. Harlow, since Alpha Adrian already has a mate, there’s no reason for me to stay. I’ll be heading back now.”
I needed to test Camila’s reaction before deciding on my next move,
Against someone as powerful and ruthless as Adrian–and with the Dunnes constantly threatening me through my adoptive parents–I had to tread carefully.
I was truly unlucky to have gotten tangled up with these werewolves in the first place.
Just as I turned to leave, Camila stood and grabbed my hand. “Girl, don’t be rash. Sit down for a bit.”
She guided me back into the chair and then shouted at Adrian in a sharp tone, “You little brat–get over here!”
“Yes, Grandma.”
Adrian responded obediently, then followed her into the inner room. But before leaving, he still turned back and shot me a

warning glare with those piercing wolf eyes.
The moment they were gone, Leticia dropped the act and showed her true colors.
She bared her sharp wolf fangs and pointed at me furiously. “Melissa, you bitch! I’m going to …”
Slap! Slap!
Before she could finish, I raised my hand and smacked her across the face twice.
“What else do you know how to do besides using your Silverblood Pack status to bully people like me?
“Oh, right—you’re also good at stealing credit, putting on a show, and playing the innocent victim. Isn’t that right, Leticia?”
Leticia hadn’t expected me to fight back, let alone slap her in front of everyone.
Furious and humiliated, she immediately shifted into her wolf form.
Her silver fur bristled, and her fangs gleamed as she prepared to lunge at me.
