Chapter 10 Awakened
Melissa’s POV:
Lave
His grip on my chin tightened, clearly wanting to teach me a lesson after I pushed his buttons.
“Adrian, what do you think you’re doing?”
Camila’s sudden voice cut through the tension like a knife.
Adrian let go of me, then glanced at my face and sneered.
“Let’s see if you’re still this smug three days from now.”
With that warning, he turned to Leticia. “Let’s go.”
Leticia shot me a triumphant look, then turned back to Camila with an overly sweet smile. “Mrs. Harlow, I’ll be leaving with Alpha now.”
“Alright.”
Camila replied Kalf–heartedly.
Leticia followed Adrian out.
As I watched his retreating figure, the faint, relaxed smile I’d forced onto my face slowly faded.
I knew perfectly well–I may have gotten under Leticia’s skin, but I also angered Adrian in the process.
And with my wolf still dormant, if they ever decided to retaliate, I wouldn’t stand a chance.
“Melissa, stay here with me for a couple of days.”
Camila’s voice brought me back to reality.
I had no interest in begging the Dunnes for mercy on behalf of my adoptive parents, especially after how things had escalated with Adrian. Right now, Camila was the only one I could rely on.
Thankfully, she didn’t seem to hold any prejudice against me for not having a wolf, and I could sense no hostility from her.
“I don’t understand… Why do you want me to stay with you?” I asked, genuinely confused.
“Adrian slept with you He should take responsibility for that,” she said bluntly.
“Besides, you’re the mate chosen by the Moon Goddess. You’ll be Adrian’s Luna in the future. Keeping you here for a few days gives me a chance to get to know you better.”
A
Then, as if sensing my unease, Camila gently reassured me, “I’ve already arranged for the best doctors to look after your parents. I’m confident they’ll recover soon.”
I was overwhelmed with gratitude but had no way to repay her.
www.
The only thing I could do was keep reminding myself. I saved Adrian, and now Camila is helping my adoptive parents. That makes us even,
“Thank you, Grandma,” I said sincerely.
The next three days passed in a peaceful routine. In the mornings, I practiced yoga with Camila. Late mornings were spent trimming flowers and tending to her garden. Afternoons, we baked pastries or played chess together.
Time flew by when each day was full and steady.
On the fourth morning, after breakfast, I packed my things and got ready to leave.

Carrying my bag downstairs, I paused in front of Camila, who was sitting on the sofa, and gave her a polite nod. “Mrs. Harlow, I’ll be heading out now. Thank you for your generous hospitality.”
Camila stood up, walked over to me, and smiled kindly. “You’ve got a cheerful spirit, girl. Spending time with you these past few days made me feel a lot younger.”
With her, there was no trace of the intimidating presence she held as the clan’s most powerful elder.
She felt more like a warm, loving grandmother–someone who, in those quiet days, made me feel truly safe.
“Stay young at heart, okay? I’m heading out now. Bye–bye!” I waved cheerfully. I liked her.
“Alright, don’t forget to come visit me when you have time.”
“Erm… Hahaha… Sure, Mrs. Harlow.”
I replied with a sheepish smile.
But in my heart, I knew the truth–after offending Adrian, whether I’d be allowed to step foot in Harlow Mansion again wasn’t Jup
up to me.
After leaving the estate, Camila had arranged for a driver to take me to the city center.
When we passed a pharmacy, I quickly asked to be dropped off and told the driver he could head back.
With my crossbody bag slung over my shoulder, I jogged into the store. A pharmacist approached me right away. “Hi, how can I help you today?”
“I need your best emergency contraceptive,” I blurted out, clearly in a rush.
I hadn’t had a chance to leave Harlow Mansion the past few days, so there was no way I could get any earlier.
Now that I was finally out, I had to take the pills as soon as possible–if I ended up pregnant, I’d be screwed.
The pharmacist handed me a box. “This one is the most effective within 72 hours.”
I took it, but just as I was about to head to the counter, I froze in my tracks. “Wait… What did you say? Seventy–two hours?”
“Yes,” he replied. “The sooner, the better. After three days, it won’t work anymore.”
“Only three days?”
“That’s right.”
My mind went blank. I was stunned.
I looked down at the box and scanned the instructions–sure enough, it was effective only within 72 hours. After that, it was useless.
I’d never taken emergency contraception before and had foolishly thought it worked up to a week.

No wonder Camila had insisted on keeping me at Harlow Mansion for three full days. So this was her plan.
I shoved the box back into the pharmacist’s hands and walked out of the store with tears brimming in my eyes.

I screamed, struggling with all my strength. “Stop the car! Let me out! I swear I’ll call the cops!”
“Ms. Cruise, you’d better behave and not make things worse for yourself.”
A voice came from the driver’s seat–familiar, calm, and chilling.
I craned my neck to look. It was Adrian’s Beta–Andy.
So Adrian was the one who sent people to kidnap me?
Just as the shock started to hit me, a sudden voice echoed in my mind.
“Melissa.”
Who was that?
“I’m your wolf. Nancy.”
What?
My wolf … Had awakened?
