Chapter 1 Awful Day
Melissa Cruise’s POV:
I used every bit of strength I had to rush a blood–soaked man to the werewolf hospital’s emergency room.
He was a werewolf. And so was I–at least by blood.
But humans raised me, and I’ve always considered myself one of them. I never wanted anything to do with werewolves, especially not after meeting my biological werewolf parents.
After the man was wheeled into the emergency room, I finally had a moment to catch my breath and reflect on what a god- awful day it had been.
While I was delivering food, a Ferrari next to me was suddenly T–boned by a massive truck that ran a red light.
The Ferrari was completely mangled. The windows shattered, the rear end caught fire, and the whole car looked like it was seconds away from exploding.
Inside, the driver was unconscious and drenched in blood.
I don’t even know where I got the courage. I didn’t think–just ran up and dragged the man out of the wreckage with all the strength I had.
We made it just a few meters away when… Boom! The car exploded behind us.
My heart nearly stopped. If I’d hesitated for even a second, I would’ve been blown to pieces too.
Only after getting him to safety did I realize… He was a werewolf.
That struck me as strange. Werewolves are incredibly fast–he should’ve been able to dodge the crash himself.
Before I could dwell on it, the seriously injured man grabbed my wrist with what little strength he had, looked up at me through the blood and haze, and whispered, “Help me… Take me to the hospital… I’ll give you 100 million dollars…”
A hundred million dollars?
Had I just saved the richest man in the world or something?
I was still replaying it all in my mind when a nurse came over and urged me to go pay the admission fees.
At the payment window, the receptionist asked, “Name?”
I was just about to answer when she looked up and saw my face. Her attitude did a complete 180.
“Oh! My God! You’re Ms. Leticia Dunne–the Alpha heir of our Silverblood Pack! Please wait right here, I’ll get a doctor for you right away!”
I let out a bitter laugh at her over–the–top reaction.
Leticia is my older sister. We’re identical in every way… Except our fates.
The year we were born, the entire continent was engulfed in a brutal war between packs.
During the chaos, our biological parents–the Alpha and Luna of the Silverblood Pack–chose to abandon me. I’d fall seriously ill and was on the brink of death, and they considered me a burden.

I was left on the battlefield to die. But somehow, I survived. After being passed around from place to place, I was eventually adopted by human parents.
Just a month ago, my adoptive parents were severely injured in a car accident and needed expensive treatment.
That’s when my biological parents suddenly showed up, claiming they could help save my adoptive mom and dad.

But there was a catch. I had to donate blood to their younger son–Leticia’s little brother–who’d been poisoned by wolfsbane. And I couldn’t let anyone see my face.
“Leticia has been trained as the Alpha heir since birth,” my birth mother, Luna Zoe Winston, had said. “She’s had elite werewolf training. She’s perfect in every way.
“She’s also a renowned beauty. You, on the other hand, are just some weakling raised by humans. You were frail from the moment you were born, and to this day, you haven’t even awakened your wolf. You’re not even Omega–level.
“We won’t let your existence disgrace Leticia’s name.”
So, for the sake of my adoptive parents‘ lives, I agreed. I swallowed my pride and said yes.
Since then, I’ve had to wear ugly makeup every day just to hide my face and avoid being mistaken for Leticia—the shining jewel of the Silverblood Pack.
But tonight, it was late, and I was just out delivering food. I didn’t bother with the makeup.
Never in a million years did I think I’d run into someone who would recognize me, let alone accidentally end up at the Silverblood Pack’s werewolf hospital.
Now, with no other option, I had to pretend to be “Leticia” and use her name to top up 5,000 dollars for the man’s surgery.
After settling everything, I dragged my exhausted body back to my tiny rented apartment and took a hot shower.
While washing my dirty clothes, I found a ring in the pocket. An heirloom ring, with a totem so old and worn it was hard to make out the design.
It must’ve fallen in when that man was grabbing my shirt.
I didn’t think much of it and just set the ring on the table. Then I lay down to rest.
I had no idea how much time had passed when I heard someone banging on the door.
Still in my slippers, I shuffled over and opened it.
“Melissa, you bitch! Did you already forget what I told you?
“You want me to shift and teach you a lesson the hard way?”
Leticia–tall, poised, and furious–stormed in and slapped me hard across the face.
