Chapter 6
Chelsea’s Point of View
“Are you in denial now?” Lara asked mockingly, and I fisted my hands, glaring daggers at her. “We used to be so chummy You would follow me everywhere. What are you doing here?”
She asked curiously, staring at me with disgust, but I didn’t answer the question. The tears in my eyes begged to be let out, but I stubbornly held on to them.
A few seconds passed, then she let out a dramatic gasp. Maybe the realization clicked in.
“Don’t tell me you came here looking for a job?” She crossed her arms, walking closer to me. “There’s no way you came here dressed like that.”
She giggled, and another frown creased my eyebrows, a little irritated. “There is no way Hezron’s cooperation will hire a hungry–looking beggar like yourself. Forget about the interview.” She advised sarcastically. “People like you belong in some low–budget restaurant. Waiting tables, and not among executive people.”
I remained still.
“Did you tell them about how you got expelled in high school?” She chuckled, and I turned toward her to glare at her.
“It’s none of your business what I choose to do while I’m here,” I answered, and with a huff, I marched toward the elevator. A small sigh escaped me, and my shoulders sagged lightly, my legs dragging as I walked down to get myself a taxi.
I heard a familiar ringtone, and almost immediately, I fumbled for my phone.
“Chelsea…” I heard my sister’s voice. “I won’t be coming home tonight. I am joining my friend Dahlia in a study group.”
“Oh, are you going to be okay?” I asked curiously, sad that she wouldn’t be home tonight. Cordelia was my ray of sunshine, the only thing that kept me going in this cruel world. How do I tell her I want her by my side tonight?
“Yes, I will. I promise.” She assured me, and I nodded even though she couldn’t see me. “Don’t stay out too late, eat dinner early, and go to sleep early. Bye.”

I groaned loudly, turning uncomfortably in my slumber. There was a small ring on my head, and another groan escaped my lips as my eyes flew open. Shit! My phone was ringing. I stretched my hands toward the bedside table, grabbed it, and brought it to my ear.
“Hello…” I slurred as I struggled to sit up, a small pain building in my head. Who the hell was calling me so early in the morning?
“This is unbelievable.” The deep voice rang in my ears, reverberating. And almost instantly the sleep washed away from my field of vision. “Don’t tell me you’re just waking up?”
“M–Mr. Hezron?” I stuttered, jumping out of bed, my heart palpitating in my chest.
“Shouldn’t my personal assistant be on her way to my house?” he queried, his voice deep and controlled. The authority he commanded made goosebumps peel from the exposed part of my body. My eyes quickly darted toward the small clock that was resting on my bedside table.
It was a little after 6:00 A.M. What could be so important that he couldn’t wait till morning?
I ran my hands through my hair, pacing around the room. Almost tripping on my clothes sprawled across the floor.

He dropped the wine glass from his hands.
“This means you are late. Not only that, you also breached the clause of the contract.” He murmured, getting up from the chaise.
“I–I’m sorry,” I answered, trying my best to be composed. “This is the first time I’m coming here, and finding directions was difficult. It won’t happen again.”
I took a protective step backward when I noticed he was getting dangerously close to me. His tall, imposing frame towered over me menacingly, but I remained composed.
“Are you sure?” his eyes lingered on me.
“Most definitely.”
