“Mother, you can’t just come into my office unannounced” Kai snapped, his irritation evident in his voice, I wiped my cheeks with the back of my hands.
Mother? Did he just call this woman mother?
If this woman was his mother, then this is Mrs. Alvarez?
My eyes widened almost immediately, they almost fell out of their sockets.

The vivid memory of this woman cursing me out at the school disciplinary committee that afternoon, or how she swore to make me rot in jail played in my head and I felt myself tremble. Even though a lot of time had passed, I was so sure that she wouldn’t have completely forgotten me.
Those bloodthirsty eyes, there was no way she would have forgotten me. My palms began to sweat.
“What do you expect me to do when you won’t answer my calls?” She yelled, her voice shaking with rage, but Kai on the other hand seemed relaxed. “You don’t know how serious I am when I tell you to return to the house. Everything I am doing is for your sake, give up on your pride and listen to your mother for once in your life.”
“Mom, I have told you, I am never coming back there, “he declared in a tight voice. My shaky hands reached for the last plain paper on the floor. With my back turned towards them, I walked towards my small table and dropped the papers as silently as I could.
My heart still racing in my chest, I told myself, “I should leave now.” But how do I leave the office without her seeing me? Goosebumps washed over me, and dread climbed against my skin.
“You know how much your father values the connection of his family,” She insisted, she didn’t sound like she was ready to back down any time soon, she sounded serious and on business. “It gets awkward during every meal when he asks after you. If you keep this up, then your name might not be in his will.”
“Is it all about money to you, mom?” Kai asked curiously, and there was an added emotion in his voice, one that he had never shown before.
As much as I am interested in this conversation, I know I just couldn’t listen, I just froze still with my back turned to them, wondering how in God’s name I was going to leave the office before things got any heated. “You don’t think about me, do you? You don’t even know what I have to go through to become like this. If you care about me as you claim, you will be happy for my achievements, and let me be.”
“I am trying to fight for what you deserve.” She snapped at him. “Life is a battle, and I am fighting that you don’t ever have to live the kind of life that I lived. Why do you think I shamelessly had to assume the role of a mistress?”
I frowned lightly, shit, this was getting more intense than I thought, I better just leave.
“Chelsea, please excuse me for a minute.” I heard Kai’s stiff order, and I felt as if my soul was about to leave my body.
“Yes, boss,” I whispered, I turned towards them, lowering my gaze, making sure I didn’t match Mrs. Alvarez’s gaze.
I was about to leave the office when I heard her voice from behind me.
“Chelsea? Is that her name?” She queried, and I felt myself froze. “What an oddly familiar name.”
“Mom…” I heard Kai’s voice warningly. I grabbed the door handle but before I could open the door, she grabbed my hands yanking me towards her, her judging eyes scanning me from head to toe.
There was a dramatic silence in the office, and Kai walked towards us as if he was expecting something to happen. Mrs. Alvarez released me almost immediately, her eyes widened, and she stumbled towards her son.

“Noah…” She called as she tapped him, the look in her eyes was precious, if only she wasn’t looking at me it would have been more dramatic. It was as though she saw one of those killers from a horror movie. “Am I hallucinating?”
“Mom, you need to leave now.” He tells her. “If you don’t I will be forced to call security”
“What do you mean I have to leave now?” She asked curiously. “Do you even know who this is?”
Her voice raised slightly higher than the last time, and I was torn between dashing out of the office and staying, Knowing the former might breed an even greater catastrophe, I remained rooted in my spot.
“Mom…” Kai started again.
“Isn’t this the witch you almost killed you?” She yelled reaching for me, she grabbed the front of my dress, “What the hell are you doing here?”
Kai pulled his mother, trying to get her away from me.
“Tell me, Noah, what is that bitch doing here?” she turned towards Noah this time, but she grabbed me like her life depended on it.
“This is the reason you’re supposed to call me before you come barging into my office.” He snapped, and then he glared at me. “I thought I told you to leave.”
“Y–Yes sir.” I didn’t know where I was going but I knew I needed to leave the office, the building if possible. I quickly darted out of his office, my shaky legs carrying me as fast as I could go. Almost colliding with some of the staff walking along the corridor.
“Hey, stop!” I heard the familiar voice of Mrs. Alvarez as I reached the reception of the company, she was sprinting towards me, even though she was wearing six–inch heels. It was unrealistically possible, but since she was fueled with the intensity of her grudge for me. Before I could run or move, she grabbed me by my hair, dragging me to the ground.
I fell smashing my knees against the marble flooring.
“You crazy wench!” She yelled on top of her voice, “What do you think you’re doing here working in my son’s company, after what you did to him.”
“Someone call security!” One of the receptionist women yelled, their eyes widening in horror as they stared at us.
“No, you can’t, that is the Madam. The boss’s mother.” Another person yelled again. I turned and twisted painfully, trying to get her wicked hands away from my hair.
“Don’t you have any shame?” She yelled again, and I tried to get up on my feet, but it was impossible, one of my sandal heels had slipped from its footing, making it difficult for me to be balanced.
She dug her nails into my head and slapped me hard across the face, my head yanked to the side, and I shut my eyes tightly, my blood filling my mouth.
“Mother!” I heard Kai’s voice as he sprinted towards us, and he tried to pull his mother off, she held on to my hair even tighter and I yelled out in pain, tears slipping out of my eyes. “Mother please unhand her now.”
“No, I am not going to do that. You don’t know how badly I have always wanted to do this for what she did to you.” She growled, the sophisticated woman of some few minutes was nowhere to be found, “I had dreams about gouging out her eyes.”
“Mother, let her go, right now!” He yelled holding her wrist when he noticed just how much pain she was inflicting on my head. With a harder yank, he was able to get her off, but she grabbed the front of my shirt, and I pulled back.
A small gasp escaped my lips when I saw my buttons pop from my shirt, the material of my clothes ripping. My white lacy bra coming out to display.

Mrs. Alvarez was breathing heavily, she didn’t look satisfied, as Kai looked around as if he was searching for something.
“Security!” He yelled. “Someone please come take her out.”
