Chapter 24
Lucian
“Allan, I need you to find someone for me,” I ordered the moment I arrived at the supreme court.
He came to me and I handed him a piece of paper. Then I looked at Beverly who’s head is bowing as if she couldn’t be bothered by the fact that I am already here. Everyone stared at me as if they expected a meeting today, but certainly not in such an informal and tense way.!!
“Alpha, what is happening?” one of the lawmakers asked.
I knew they did not expect me to show up looking this dark and serious. I had been calm when I ordered everyone to come to court because I had been restraining myself, considering that Hestia and our child were still in the hospital. But now…
“Mr. Hudson,” I called to the old man responsible for guiding future alphas. “Tell me, did you tell anyone about me and Chesca having an heir to the throne?“@
They exchanged glances, an action that irritated me. I slammed my hands hard against the table.
“Who? Who else did you tell?”
“N–none, Alpha. I told no one b–because that information is forbidden,” he stammered.
His eyes showed no sign of lying. He knew about Hestia. He knew Chesca was not Lorde’s real mother. Yet, he never spoke a word about
- it.
“Then who among you found out about my child first? Who spread that information among you? Speak now!“}
“Why, Lucian? What is the problem?” asked the oldest woman in the council, who also happened to be my grand–aunt.
Пlooked at each of them carefully. Only Beverly could not meet my eyes, but I wanted to believe it was because of what she did to Lorde. She was not around when I impregnated Hestia. She had been abroad, far from the scene. Or was she?
I smirked evilly. If I find out she’s connected to the accident seven years ago, I would make sure she’d face every horror she never wanted to even take a glimpse of.
I turned to Matthew. “Find out who first learned about my son. Find out why the public suspected I had a child when the accident never revealed that information until it was confirmed by me.”
I knew someone betrayed me. Someone betrayed the court. I had never told anyone about Lorde, not even my own family, except for Mr. Hudson. They only learned of his existence after he was born.
I did not believe anyone would have the motive to kill Chesca. Hestia was the real target because she carried the heir to my position.}] When we first discovered Chesca could not bear a child, it became a problem because it could cost me my position as Alpha. That changed when Hestia came into the picture. Who else would plot such a crime but someone hungry for the throne? It could be the opposing family who later became silent after the accident or someone… who’s still moving in secret right now, just like Beverly. I looked around the room, smirking bitterly. I would not show them mercy once I uncovered the traitor.
Hestial
I stirred awake to a chilling sensation, the room growing darker despite the lights still being on.
At first, I thought it was just my mind playing tricks on me, hallucinating because of the medication or the overwhelming memories pressing against my skull. I heard faint whimpers, as if someone was in pain, followed by the sound of something scraping along the walls.
blinked rapidly, forcing my vision to sharpen. Then I saw it. In the dimness, right before me, I saw Lorde being dragged away by someone, his small fingers clawing at the walls, his nails leaving trails of blood on the once–pristine white surface.
His wide, terrified eyes screamed at me for help, though no sound left his lips. “Where are you taking my son?!” I cried out. “Help!” I screamed, my voice breaking.
I ran after them, but the man was fast, carrying Lorde easily due to his small size.
Lorde fought back desperately. He bit the man hard and finally cried out, “Mommy! Help me!“}
I did not stop running through the corridor. Several nurses appeared, and for a second, I thought they were there to help. But when I saw one of them pull something from her pocket, it was not a phone to call for help. It was a gun loaded with a syringe.
My legs wobbled from fear but I forced them to move faster even as my strength dwindled.§
I felt a sharp pain in my chest. When I looked down, I saw a small dart embedded in me. Paralysis crept through my body quickly, locking up my muscles until I collapsed helplessly on the floor.”
I could only watch through my blurring vision as Lorde was dragged away farther and farther from me.§
“Come here, you bitch,” sneered a voice from behind me.
Someone yanked my hair harshly, pulling my head back, and in the next moment, darkness swallowed my sight completely.
