Chapter 6
Chelsea slept for a long time. When she finally woke, groggy, dry-mouthed, the entire room was pitch black.
She pushed herself up and instinctively reached for the nightstand.
Every night, Adam would leave her a glass of warm water there.
Tonight, it was empty.
A hollow ache crept into her chest, quickly followed by a self-mocking laugh.
Ever since Anna’s pregnancy, no matter how hard Adam tried to pretend, he was no longer the man who used to love her
that much.
She got up and made her way downstairs. Just as she passed by the guest room, she heard Adam’s voice.
Her steps halted on reflex.
“It’s my fault Chelsea got hurt. I shouldn’t have acted recklessly,” Anna sobbed softly.
“You’re pregnant and you shouldn’t be starving yourself,” Adam said, his tone coaxing and indulgent. “Chelsea’s just
overreacting. It’s all my fault I spoiled her too much. Stop crying, sweetheart, it kills me to see you like this.” Adam said as
he gently pulled her into his arms, brushing the top of her head.
“You’ve gotten more and more sensitive lately.”
“Don’t tease me,” Anna pouted, her sultry face tinged with faux grievance. The look she gave him was nothing short of
seductive.
The Adam’s apple of Adam bobbed and he averted his eyes. Their passionate intimacy on the yacht had nearly caused
Anna’s miscarriage, so he didn’t dare act recklessly anymore.
“Do you want to do it?” she said, lips curling into a smirk. “Too bad Chelsea’s still injured. She can’t exactly satisfy you right now.”
“Even when she’s not injured, she’s never been as tempting as you. You little minx, I can hold back for now, but once the baby’s safe, you won’t get off that easy,” Adam said, lips curling into a smirk.
“I can help you now,” Anna murmured.
As soon as the words left her lips, she slid down and slowly sank to her knees between his legs.
The contrast between her sultry face and the innocent lilt in her voice was almost obscene. With her actions, it was enough to make Adam let out a muffled groan.
“Damn, you little slut. You’re so good at this.”
Watching it unfold again, Chelsea felt nothing. Not a ripple stirred in her heart. She numbly continued downstairs to get a drink of water.
Maybe it was the head injury, but she’d slept unusually deeply and didn’t wake until the next evening.

“Babe, I meant to catch you, but you fell too fast, and I couldn’t reach in time…” Adam began explaining the moment he saw she was awake, his eyes flickering nervously, betraying his guilt.
Chelsea looked at him, too tired to call out his lies. Her voice was flat as she asked, “Where’s Anna?”
“If you want to blame someone, blame me. She’s a little clumsy and she didn’t mean to bump into you. She almost got hurt too,” Adam said, trying to defend Anna.
“I see.” Her voice was calm, without a trace of emotion. “Tomorrow is my parents’ death anniversary. Can you come with
me?”
“Of course.” Relieved that she didn’t seem angry, Adam relaxed a little, but then looked at her again.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that she had changed. Her gaze as she looked at him didn’t hold the same warmth. It was
as if the love in her eyes had quietly vanished.
He wanted to ask, but Chelsea had already closed her eyes.
That night, she drifted in and out of sleep, as if trapped in a daze. Adam tried talking to her several times, but she didn’t
respond.
The next day marked her parents’ death anniversary. Chelsea got up early, washed up, and dressed in a black casual
outfit. She rode with Adam to the cemetery.
He had thoughtfully prepared breakfast and brought a bouquet of flowers. Seeing her pale face, he felt heartbroken but just assumed she was just grieving and tried to cheer her up with small talk during the drive.
But Chelsea barely responded, showing little interest in anything he said.
Just as they arrived at the pack’s cemetery, Adam received a phone call. His expression instantly tensed. With a sharp brake, he pulled the car over to the side of the road.
Caught off guard, Chelsea lurched forward, her shoulder digging into the seatbelt hard enough to leave a red mark. She
couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong?”
“Honey, there’s an emergency with the pack. I need to take care of something,” Adam said, his face pale and voice tense, panic and worry written all over his eyes. “Go ahead and visit your parents first. I’ll be back soon.”
Chelsea gave an understanding nod, opened the door, and stepped out.
She had barely gotten her footing when Adam sped off so fast that she nearly lost her balance.
Dust kicked up behind the tires. Chelsea glanced at it with a faint smile. Adam seemed to have forgotten that his phone
was still connected to the car’s Bluetooth. She had clearly seen the name on the caller ID: Anna Baby.
Anna had been hurt and called Adam in tears, and without a second thought, he had chosen to leave Chelsea behind to
go to her.
But Chelsea didn’t care anymore.
She no longer loved Adam.
