Chapter 3
On the day of their anniversary, Chelsea found a crowd of pack members gathered outside the pack house at some point.
They had laid down 1,825 bouquets of roses along the path. In the center stood a giant, hollow crystal ring, filled with the latest seasonal clothing and handbags from major designer brands. At the very top sat a small music box, playing Adam’s
recorded voice on repeat,
“Happy mating anniversary, my love. I love you, just as I always have.”
Chelsea stared expressionlessly.
She shut the door and buried herself under the covers, pretending none of it had anything to do with her.
A few minutes later, Adam called.
His voice on the other end was filled with guilt. “Baby, something suddenly came up with the partnership. I won’t make it
back for the anniversary today. I promise I’ll make it up to you when I get home.”
Listening to his flimsy excuse, Chelsea suddenly laughed. Her voice trembled.
“It’s fine. You do what you need to.”
“Sweetheart, you’re upset,” Adam said, sensitively catching the shift in her tone. “I prepared a lot of surprises for you.
really hope you like them. I’ll make it up to you in a few days.”
“No, really. Work comes first. I’m just feeling a little unwell. I think I’ll lie down for a bit.” Chelsea’s voice turned cold as she
hung up.
She curled into a ball under the blankets, silently fighting the growing pain in her chest.
Outside the pack house, the celebrations continued.
Adam had arranged for drones to perform in the sky, forming words and shapes that expressed his supposed love for her.
Chelsea ignored it all. Her phone rang again and again.
Staring at Adam’s name on the screen, her eyes blurred once more.
She wanted to answer and scream at him-ask him why he’d broken his promise, why he’d fallen in love with another
she-wolf.
But in the end, she simply turned off the phone silently and buried her head deeper into the covers.
She had no idea how long she had stayed like that, until suddenly, the blanket was yanked away and a harsh light hit her
eyes, making them sting.
Against the light, she saw Adam standing by the bed. He was gaunt and pale with messy hair, his eyes full of worry and
panic.
The moment he realized she wasn’t happy, he had rushed back home. He kept calling her all the way, but she didn’t
answer, which terrified him.

The moment he saw her, he pulled her tightly into his arms, voice hoarse and choked with emotion.
“Thank God you’re home. Baby, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.”
His eyes reddened, and his body trembled uncontrollably. “I’ll never leave you alone again. When you didn’t answer your phone, it felt like my world was falling apart.”
“Nothing’s more important than you. I’m here now, to celebrate our anniversary with you.”
Chelsea remained silent.
Adam assumed she was still angry. He dropped to one knee, trying to coax her gently.
“Please, baby. Promise me you’ll never ignore my calls again. Don’t shut me out like that. It’ll kill me.”
The fear and anxiety in his eyes didn’t seem faked. He did love her, but he loved someone else too.
“You got back pretty fast,” Chelsea said, forcing a slight smirk. Adam’s expression stiffened, guilt flashing across his face.
“Sweetheart, you haven’t eaten all day, have you? Let’s go to The Silver Fork.” Adam tried to steer the conversation away, gently brushing the hair from her forehead.
“I’m not going,” Chelsea replied, shaking her head.
Adam’s heart skipped a beat and he panicked. “Then at least rest a little. I’ll go downstairs and make something for you.”
“Okay.” She gave a cool nod and turned her back to him.
He thought she was just sulking, so he took a deep breath and left the room.
About ten minutes later, the sound of commotion drifted up from downstairs.
Chelsea went down and saw the living room of the pack house full of Adam’s friends. They were re-hanging freshly
printed photos onto the wall.
When they noticed her, they immediately began speaking up for Adam.
“Luna, Alpha was scared to death. I’ve never seen him so nervous.”
“If Alpha hadn’t found her Luna, I swear he would’ve lost his mind.”
“Yeah, when Adam saw the bare wall, he passed out and even started digging through the trash to find the pictures!”
“Shut up, all of you.” Adam walked out from the kitchen, still wearing his apron, looking irritated. “This is my fault. I hurt
my Luna. She has every right to punish me.”
“Alpha spoils his Luna rotten. He’d throw his pride away in front of her. Luna, you’re so lucky,” Anna chimed in with a look of admiration as she stepped out of the crowd.

Adam remained calm and smiled gently. “She’s my Luna and of course I’m going to spoil her.”
Chelsea felt a wave of nausea and chill rise up.

He felt so fake to her. But she didn’t want to expose him, at least not yet.
“There’s no need to hang those photos,” she said flatly. “I’m thinking of repainting the wall.”
Adam walked over and wrapped an arm around her waist. “Alright, then stop hanging them. Do what Luna says.”
He helped her to the sofa, then returned to the kitchen to finish cooking.
He made all her favorite dishes, but Chelsea couldn’t taste a thing.
What’s worse-while one hand served the food onto her plate, the other was hidden beneath the table, fingers tightly
entwined with Anna’s.
Chelsea suddenly felt nothing but exhaustion. She couldn’t wait to escape from this house, from Adam.
After dinner, Adam didn’t even give her the chance to say no. He actively bent down to help her put on her socks and
shoes, then scooped her into his arms and carried her outside.
Pack members whooped and teased them along the way.
Even Anna joined in the teasing with a smile, but Chelsea clearly saw the flicker of jealousy and resentment flash across
her eyes.
Adam had gone out of his way to arrange a fireworks show at sea just for Chelsea. He even hired her favorite band to
perform.
Halfway through the performance, Adam excused himself to go to the restroom.
Without thinking, Chelsea followed him.
