Chapter 22
Behind the scenes, Adam quietly arranged for someone to partner with Chelsea, allocating five percent of the pack’s annual profits to fund her charity projects and help the packs she cared about.
He didn’t dare disturb Chelsea directly anymore. Instead, he chose to protect her from afar in his own way.
When the pack elders learned of this, they confronted Adam again, but he silenced them with the signed contract.
The agreement with Chelsea was indefinite. As long as she continued protecting the packs in that small town, the money
would keep flowing.
Every day, Adam received updates and videos of Chelsea. She grew more confident, more radiant.
She was the reason he kept going.
One late night, Adam got up from his office chair, but suddenly everything went black and he collapsed to the ground.
When he came to, he saw Sheila’s tear-streaked face.
Repeated head injuries had caused blood clots in his brain pressing on nerves. The location was too delicate for surgery.
He faced the risk of blindness, fainting, or even death at any moment.
When Adam learned the truth, the first thought in his mind was fear. He feared he might not be able to protect Chelsea
anymore.
“Luckily, the contract is signed. I’m part of her future, at least.”
“Mom, I’m sorry I realized everything too late, not only hurting Chelsea but hurting you too. If I die, please take care of
Chelsea.”
“If I could do it all over, I wouldn’t be such a jerk.”
Adam slipped into unconsciousness again, with no telling when he would wake.
Sheila, sobbing, sought out Chelsea, begging her to come see Adam.
At that moment, Chelsea had just discarded the flowers Adam sent her. Dressed sharply in a white suit, she was taken
aback to see Sheila.
Sheila had always treated her well. Chelsea smiled faintly and approached her.
“Luna, what brings you here?”
“Chelsea, Adam is unconscious, and the pack doctors say he could die any moment. I’m begging you. Please go see him, will you?” Sheila was choking on her tears. “I know I shouldn’t bother you, but I can’t just stand by and watch him suffer
like this.”
Chelsea’s expression shifted slightly. She steadied Sheila’s shoulders.
“Sorry, Luna. I can’t go.”

“I don’t want anything to do with him anymore. I know you’ll blame me, but I’m sorry.” Chelsea took a deep breath.
“Don’t you realize you’ll never completely cut ties with him? He gave you…” Sheila hesitated. Remembering Adam’s earlier warning, she swallowed the rest of her words.
Adam had told her not to reveal the truth. He was afraid that if Chelsea found out about the funding, she’d cancel the agreement, which was the last, fragile bond between them.
Chelsea, unaware of the truth, bowed politely to Sheila.
“I have nothing to do with him anymore. Sorry.”
Without hesitation, Chelsea left. Sheila covered her mouth, crying silently but did not follow.
As Chelsea stepped out of the office building, Deacon was just getting out of his car. He smiled warmly and greeted her.
“Chelsea, the restaurant is reserved. We can go straight there.”
“Thank you for your hard work. This time, we have to secure the healer cooperation so we don’t have to search for pack doctors separately.” Chelsea smiled, brushing away the shadow Adam had cast over her.
“Whenever you’re involved, no deal is impossible.”
Deacon was not only Chelsea’s business partner but also the pack hall’s legal counsel.
Chelsea had recently learned that Deacon was incredibly wealthy. He was the heir of the royal, an Alpha prince, and future
Alpha king, even richer and more powerful than Adam.
He studied law because he liked it, and he became a lawyer because of her.
But Chelsea still wasn’t ready for romance. Her focus was her career.
Deacon didn’t seem to rush. He patiently stayed by her side, occasionally using work as an excuse to ask her out.
Twenty years passed in the blink of an eye.
Chelsea helped more and more small towns lift themselves out of poverty and was rewarded by the Alpha king, moving
steadily forward in the field she loved.
Deacon’s two decades of companionship finally paid off. He sealed the mate bond with Chelsea, becoming her legal
mate.
As for Adam, he remained unconscious for twenty years.
Shortly before his death, he briefly opened his eyes. It was a final flicker of life.
He said he had traveled back in time to when he and Chelsea were deeply in love.
This time, he never betrayed her, never cheated on her.
They sealed the mate bond, had children, and lived a lifetime of happiness together.
