Chapter 10

Adam’s unease grew heavier with every passing moment. Without hesitation, he stood up and headed for the door.

“Adam…” Anna grabbed the hem of his shirt, her eyes pleading. “Where are you going?”

“Be good, Anna. I need to go home.” His voice was gentle but carried a barely perceptible edge of irritation.

Anna reluctantly let go, her heart filled with resentment toward Chelsea, yet she still spoke for her.

“Adam, remember don’t be too harsh on Chelsea.”

“You silly girl, think more about yourself. I’ll be back soon to keep you company.”

Adam rushed back to the pack house, the road blurring beneath him as an inexplicable anxiety gnawed at his chest-like

something vital was slipping away from his life.

At a red light, he pulled out his phone and called Chelsea.

The familiar mechanical female voice, however, came through cold and final,

“The number you have dialed is powered off.”

For some reason, hearing that tone now made him far more anxious than before.

His foot pressed harder on the accelerator, speeding recklessly through red lights without noticing.

All he wanted was to see Chelsea as fast as possible.

When Adam finally returned to the pack house, his heartbeat quickened with every passing second.

The moment he opened the door, it felt like he had been struck by lightning. His legs turned to lead and he couldn’t take a

single step.

The entire pack house was dead silent, void of life. The living room looked like a ruin.

“Babe?” he called out, his voice dry and cracking.

His heart clenched. A storm of panic and dread wrapped around his heart like a suffocating net.

He forced himself to step forward, stumbling across the wreckage gingerly and climbed the stairs. He threw open the

bedroom door in a rush.

The bedroom was neat and untouched. Everything-belonging to Chelsea was there, except for her.

Adam ran to the study, but it was orderly as well.

His heart dropped hard. A sick feeling took over as he redialed her number over and over, but her phone was still off.

Frantically, he called his beta Jeremy. “Luna is missing. Find her now. I want news within the hour.”

Suddenly a thought struck Adam

Could it be…?

Adam didn’t dare entertain the worst possibility.

He stumbled down the stairs. At the bottom step, his feet froze.

The wall where countless photos had hung was now painted over with two harsh lines of writing. They read,

“Adam, you once said karma would get those who break hearts. Do you still remember that?”

“Loving you was the biggest regret of my life.”

Adam’s body shook violently. His vision blurred instantly as if a heavy hand clenched around his heart, squeezing so hard

it stole the air from his lungs.

His hand clenched into a fist on instinct. In his mind, Chelsea’s face kept flashing over and over.

Ever since he returned from Andorra, she hadn’t smiled once. She hadn’t called him “honey” in that soft, affectionate voice. She had even shredded all their photos together…

And every time he lied to her because of Anna, her reaction was eerily calm.

Had she known all along?

Did she know about his relationship with Anna…?

Unable to bear the thought, Adam collapsed to the floor.

His palm pressed down hard on the broken glass, which cut his skin until it bled. Pain was numb to him now. His mind

was flooded with Chelsea’s face.

“Alpha, Luna has changed her identity information. We can’t track her anymore,”

Jeremy’s voice came through as he mind linked Adam. He stammered. “She even sold her parents’ house at ten percent

below market value.”
