Chapter 7
The wound was deep, and Adeline’s forehead was stitched with more than ten stitches.
Brent finally breathed a sigh of relief only after she had bandaged herself up. Suddenly, he felt a bit scared, scared of what he had been arguing with a little girl about.
“Adele, I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. If you don’t want an apology, then I won’t apologize. I will make it up to her, everything is on me.”
From beginning to end, Adeline wore an expressionless face, but her heart had long been in pain, making it difficult to breathe.
Until this moment, he even thought she was throwing a tantrum and refusing to apologize out of spite, even though she had already suggested checking the surveillance. However, deep down in his subconscious, he still favored Mariah.
He had feelings for Mariah, so he planned to propose to her.
So,
he was unwilling to check the surveillance footage.
So, he firmly believed Mariah’s words and concluded that it was her who spilled the soup on
Mariah.
Just then, the doctor happened to walk over and, after confirming the name, earnestly instructed the patient on matters needing attention.
Brent listened attentively and, after the doctor had finished speaking, he finally spoke up and asked about the child, “How is the baby in Adele’s belly? Is everything okay?”
Hearing this, the doctor reopened the medical record book in astonishment and replied, “What child? Ms. Nolan doesn’t have a baby in her belly…”
As the conversation was not yet finished, it was interrupted by a sudden ringtone from Brent’s phone. Without any hesitation, Brent took out his phone and answered the call after seeing the
name on the screen.
I didn’t know what was said on the phone, but his expression changed slightly, and he didn’t even have time to say hello before hurriedly leaving the ward.
Watching him disappear at the door, Adeline lowered her head, and a tinge of bitterness crossed her
heart.
Brent, you missed the last opportunity to find out the truth.
In the following days, Brent did not come back again, instead, Mariah sent her messages every day.
On the first day, Brent read her a story to put her to sleep.

The next day, he fed her the carefully cooled porridge.
On the third day, he blew her hair.
She had fifteen stitches on her forehead, and he didn’t even wait to see her for a moment.
Until the day she was discharged from the hospital, Brent finally showed up.
After completing the discharge procedures, Adeline followed him to the parking spot, where someone was still sitting in the passenger seat this time.
The car window was rolled down, and the person in the passenger seat was still Mariah.
Adeline was unwilling to ride in the same car with her and was just about to hail another car to go
back when Mariah waved at her, inadvertently revealing the jade pendant on her neck.
Her movement paused as her gaze was firmly caught by the jade pendant.
She recognized that jade pendant, it was the amulet her mother had given her.
Adeline had never parted with this jade pendant for over a decade, but on the day she married Brent,
she gave it to him as a gift.
The little girl’s eyes were filled with enthusiasm as she said, “Since you will be my husband in the
future, I will give you the amulet that my mother prayed for on my behalf, to bless you with a
lifetime of peace and safety.”
At that time, he gladly accepted the jade pendant and kissed her with a smile, saying, “I will be safe
and sound so that I can spoil you for a lifetime.”
And now, this jade pendant has appeared on Mariah’s body.
“How did this end up with her?” Adeline raised her hand, pointing to the jade pendant, but her gaze
remained fixed on Brent.
Brent looked in the direction she pointed, and as he saw the jade pendant, it seemed that he only then remembered what had happened on their wedding night.
His expression froze, and for a moment, he didn’t know how to explain.
In the end, Mariah stepped in and resolved the situation for him. “Adeline, don’t be angry. It was Brent who offered to compensate me. I took a liking to this pendant, and Brent gave it to me.‘
Adeline felt as if the last bit of energy in her body had completely drained away. Brent looked at her with concern, afraid that she might start causing a scene right there on the street.
Who knew she just glanced at him, hesitated for a while, and then spoke.
“Give it to her, give it all to her.”
