Chapter 25
Adeline felt as if thunder was booming in her cars. Her hand holding the phone slowly dropped, while the voice of Madam Wilson’s inquiry continued to come from the phone. Finally, perhaps feeling that silence was her refusal, she sighed and hung up the call.
Devon walked out of the bedroom and saw her standing still, feeling a bit puzzled. “What’s wrong?
“His mother called me and said he had liver cancer, and time was running out.” She turned around and looked at him, her eyes filled with confusion. Then she reached out her hands towards Devon, slowly regaining consciousness in his warm embrace.
He embraced her and sat down on the sofa, looking inexplicable and his voice became dull, “Do you regret it?”
Do you regret divorcing him? Do you regret coming abroad with me?
Adeline shook her head, “It’s just a bit of a sigh about the impermanence of life, Devon. Since we have some time off now, would you be able to accompany me on a trip back to our country?”
Devon didn’t answer for a long time, and just when she thought he had fallen asleep, she pushed him away and saw a face full of “Are you going to abandon me?” expression on Devon. She was speechless for a moment, and she messed up his just–combed hair again. “He is a dying man, be jealous of him. It’s just a meeting; let it be the end of that failed marriage.”
Adeline eventually made a trip back to her country, together with Devon.

She knocked on the door, and Madam Wilson walked out of the sick room. When she saw her, her expression was still somewhat complicated. “I thought you wouldn’t come.”
Adeline looked at Madam Wilson, tightened her grip on Devon’s hand, and then spoke, “I came just to see you once, and I won’t come again in the future.”
Having been a couple for three years, he was not unkind to her before she found out about him and Mariah. Now, upon hearing the news of his serious illness, Adeline’s heart is not at ease.
“He became like this because of you!” Madam Wilson couldn’t hold back anymore, tears in her eyes as she accused, “Since you divorced him, he has been drinking heavily every day. If it weren’t for this, how could he have developed advanced liver cancer at such a young age?”
Upon hearing these words, Devon was about to retort, but Adeline’s footsteps halted him, intercepting him. When she looked back at Madam Wilson, there was no longer any other emotion

make him cheat or become an alcoholic. I dare not wear this hat you’re putting on me.”
After speaking, she didn’t stop and went straight into the ward. Devon, who was following behind her, snorted at Madam Wilson and rolled his eyes before entering the ward closely behind her.
Brent’s condition was not good, but when he saw Adeline, he managed to force a smile.
He subconsciously ignored Devon, who had entered behind him. Devon also didn’t want to look at him and casually grabbed a chair from the side and sat down, disregarding everything.
“Adele, I’m sorry.”
A year later, the only words he could say to her were still just this sentence. Adeline didn’t say whether she accepted or not, after all, he was still a patient and she didn’t want to upset him.
But Brent seemed to suddenly remember something and started rambling on about what had happened during this period.
He said that he did not marry Mariah. He said that Mariah’s involvement in someone else’s family was exposed, which damaged her career. She failed to attach herself to him and then attempted to attach herself to other influential people, but no one was interested in her. It is heard that in the end, she could only become an old man’s mistress, becoming a joke in the entire circle.
He said he had given up on himself, indulging in alcohol addiction all day long, which harmed his
own body.
“Adele, you are right, it was myself who caused me to become what I am today.”
Tears shimmered in his eyes, eventually forming a drop that slid down his cheek. Adeline reached out and wiped away the tear from the corner of his eye, just like he had done countless times for her during those past three years when she was sad.
“You should look forward.”
We should all look forward and constantly look back at the past, only to hurt ourselves and others.
Brent shook his head, weakly struggling to breathe, “I couldn’t get out, Adele. You won’t forgive me anymore, will you?”
Adeline still did not answer, but she stood up and took Devon’s hand, saying to him, happy now.”
I have moved on and I no longer want to keep dwelling on the past.
I would continue to move forward, heading towards a direction without you.
“I am very
