Chapter 18
The door was closed again, and Brent stood still in place, watching the closed door as his eyes suddenly turned red.
He had never imagined that it would end up like this, feeling empty inside.
How could this happen? How could she just leave so decisively, without even giving him a chance to salvage the situation?
They were once so harmonious and happy, and they already had children. It was just a little bit away, and they could have had an incredibly happy home. But now, all of this has become nothing but a fantasy.
He was wrong, he regretted it, but it seems like he can never find his Adeline, who used to have eyes
only for him, again.
Looking up through the transparent window, Adeline saw Brent hanging his head by the window,
exuding an air of dejection.
He seemed sad.
When this idea crossed her mind, a familiar voice entered her ears as the person beside her
approached.
“Were you feeling sorry?”
Adeline was startled by the sudden sound of someone speaking. She turned around and saw Devon looking inexplicably. She paused for a moment, about to answer that there was nothing when he
spoke again.
“Adele, could you… stop liking him anymore?”
Devon was anxious, afraid that she was about to say the words of rejection.
He was too timid. Even though she had divorced now and had gathered all her courage, she still only dared to say a sentence asking her not to turn back. And that confession that had been hidden in his heart for many years, he still didn’t dare to speak it out.
Adeline did not answer his question, but instead asked back, “Why do you say that?”
Why did you think she would come back?
Devon lowered his head, making it difficult for her to see his expression. After a long while, his muffled voice finally sounded, “After all, you were married for three years. Now he’s humbling himself to beg you. Most girls would soften their hearts, wouldn’t they?”
Adeline nodded thoughtfully, but it made his heart suddenly tighten.

But fortunately, he didn’t stay nervous for too long. The next second, she shook her head and completely reassured his anxiety.
“No, we were already a thing of the past long ago. No matter how much he regrets now, he cannot change what he did in the past, and the damage he caused can never be erased.”
“Devon, people always have to look forward, don’t they?”
As the last sentence fell, Adeline’s gaze returned to the data she had just organized, and there was no longer the sadness she had when she initially decided to leave in her eyes, only a sense of
calmness remained.
And by her side, Devon sat back in his original place, feeling great.
Although she was not sure why his mood changed so quickly, just a moment ago he was frowning and now he has a smiling face. But now she can do whatever she wants without any worries, and she owes it to him.
After all, although she was indeed a talented student under the teacher’s guidance in her early years, she had still left the laboratory for three years. If it had been someone else at that time, they might not have agreed to let her back into the laboratory. However, when she mentioned it, he readily agreed without hesitation.
When she first arrived in Grenia, even the teacher was hesitant about whether to let her take over the experiment directly. However, he insisted and gave her this opportunity. Fortunately, she did not disappoint his trust and ultimately handed in a perfect answer sheet.
With this in mind, she smiled
ghtly and said, “Devon, thank you.”
The sudden expression of gratitude without any reason made Devon raise his head in confusion. He
felt his gaze, but he didn’t explain. Instead, he patted his shoulder with a serious tone.
“Devon, stop daydreaming. Our experiment is already running late, we need to speed up.”
Devon cleared his throat and nodded in agreement.
After a long time, the gentle voice resurfaced, with a slight smile, “Adele, you should be grateful not to me, but to yourself who never gave up on you.”
