Chapter 16
“Adele… I was wrong, will you forgive me?”
In a daze, Brent felt as if he had hallucinated, as he actually saw Adeline.
“Is it you, Adele?”
The person smiled shyly and gently, reaching out their hand towards him, “It’s me, Brent. I came to take you home.”
Going home?
Yes, he wanted to go home with Adele.
Brent stumbled as he got up and walked forward. He had only taken a few steps when his left foot tripped over his right foot, causing him to fall forward abruptly.
After a period of chaos and confusion, a group of people finally put Brent in the car. One of them waved to the woman and said, “Mariah, we’re counting on you to take care of Brent!”
Mariah soothed the restless Brent, who was drunk, with one hand, while nodding towards them.
“Don’t worry, I will safely send Brent back.”
After obtaining her assurance, the group then crowded back into the private room, saying, “Since
Brent has left, we can let loose and have fun!”
In the car, Brent, once again, frowned at the mention of his name. His thin lips approached Mariah’s neck, and his hot breath brushed against her earlobe as he discontentedly spoke.
“Adele, didn’t you used to call me uncle before? Just call me uncle, don’t call me anything else.”
Mariah’s eyes darkened slightly, but she still patiently reassured Brent, “We’ll call when we get back, okay?”
Brent finally leaned on Mariah’s shoulder and fell into a deep sleep, satisfied, after hearing her
agree.

Grenia, the laboratory.
Adeline heard from Brent again, five months later.
The news was filled with reports that Mr. Wilson, who had married his first love and had a child, ran away on his wedding day, leaving the bride to deal with the mess alone, with an unpleasant expression on her face.
When Devon heard the news, he instinctively glanced at Adeline, but she remained expressionless.

“What did you see me doing?”
Devon scratched his head sheepishly and chuckled, “I thought you would be upset.”
“Sad? Why should I be sad?” Adeline looked puzzled, seeing him smiling foolishly and somewhat speechless. “And why do you think I would be sad, why are you laughing?”
With three consecutive questions, Devon’s smile on his face became even brighter, but this time, he refused to say another word.
But he didn’t say anything, and she quickly understood the reason behind his words. She buried her head and redirected her thoughts back to the data she had just organized.
“We’ve broken up, whether he wants to have a child, get married, or run away from marriage, it has nothing to do with me anymore.” Pausing for a moment, she added, “At most, it’s finally realizing that he is an irresponsible person.”
The air in the laboratory suddenly fell silent. Adeline looked up in confusion and saw that everyone’s gaze was focused behind her, only to see Brent rushing over without even having time to take off his boutonniere.
Obviously, he also heard the sentence she just said.
Adeline, however, did not feel embarrassed at being caught talking bad about someone behind their back. She just stood there with a disappointed look on her face and averted her gaze. After a while, when she saw that he hadn’t made any move, she spoke up again as a reminder.
“Mr. Wilson, although you were the biggest investor in our laboratory, it would be better if you didn’t stay in the laboratory for too long, so as not to affect the experiments.”
The official tone and the attitude of being reluctant to look at him more made Brent’s heartache, but he still spoke up before she could chase him away again, “Adele, can we… talk alone?”
Adeline finally put down the data in her hands and walked out with Brent.
She couldn’t help but feel that if they continued to linger in the laboratory, with their gossiping eyes, they could probably come up with a news article themselves.
