Chapter 15

The wedding planning continued smoothly, but Sheldon still appeared near Briella every day. He no longer acted out, only watched her from afar. It seemed like he was finally giving up, but his gaze grew darker and more unreadable. A sense of unease gnawed at Briella. She wavered. Jared, maybe we should call it off. I’ll think of another way.

By then, Jared had already sent out the invitations. He patted Briella’s head reassuringly. He hasn’t caused trouble lately, right? That means it’s working. We’re almost there. Just hold on a little longer.

She wasn’t convinced. Three days before the wedding, Sheldon vanished. The bodyguards overheard him on a phone call, saying his company was in trouble and he had to leave the country. He wouldn’t be back anytime soon. What the good news.

It meant the wedding would go smoothly and once it was over, he wouldn’t dare to beg another man’s wife. However, Briella’s heart remained uneasy, no matter how much Jared tried to reassure her

On the wedding day, the sky was a perfect blue. Before dawn, Briella was dragged out of bed for makeup. After three grueling hours, she finally climbed into the wedding car. Jared had been extra careful. Aside from the eight cars in the bridal convoy, he had arranged four more for protection. Briella sat in the middle vehicle, yawning sleepily

Suddenly, the car screeched to a halt. A van without license plates came barreling towards them and people in the back were firing guns indiscriminately. Gunshots rang out, mixed with screams and the whole street descended into chaos

The convoy scattered. A bullet whizzed past, grazing the wedding car driver’s cheek. Face pale as a sheet, the driver froze. Before Briella could react, the windshield shattered. Sheldon yanked the driver out, jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off. The motorcade tried to give chase, but the van blocked their path and the black muzzle of a gun pointed at the driver’s head. Everyone was instantly paralyzed, watching the wedding car disappear into the distance

Briella’s face was full of horror. Sheldon, have you lost your mind?

Sheldon glanced at her in the rearview mirror. Sweetheart, I told you, I won’t let you marry anyone else.”

He drove to an unknown location and stopped, then climbed into the back seat and embraced Briella in her white wedding dress. Sweetheart, you look so beautiful in your wedding dress. How could I let anyone else have you? Do you want a wedding? I’ll give you one, but I’ll be the only groom.”

Jared’s lips brushed her forehead, unbearably tender. But Briella’s skin crawled with fear. You’re insane! Let me go! I’m not marrying you!A dark look flashed in Sheldon’s eyes and he slowly reached up to caress her lips. Sweetheart, I don’t want to hear anything I don’t like from those lips anymore.

Briella turned her head and bit down hard on his hand. Sheldon didn’t flinch. If anything, he looked pleased. Briella was about to curse him when something bitter seeped onto her tongue. Within seconds, her vision blurred. Her body went limp in his arms

Sheldon glanced at his bleeding fingers and sighed indulgently. You still like biting people, huh?”
