Chapter 10%
As soon as I reached the street, I saw a fire truck and a police car passing by.
Without thinking, I ran straight into their path.
The firetruck screeched to a halt. The firefighter who was driving jumped out, furious.}
“Are you trying to get yourself killed?!”
I couldn’t waste time explaining. “Someone’s life is in danger! Please help!“}
I didn’t even need to explain much, mentioning the chimpanzee was enough. Their faces changed immediately.
They gathered their team and surrounded the building.”
Soon after, “Sebastian” was captured alive.§
My best friend was rescued, too.
I cried tears of relief, holding her tightly. “I’m so glad I didn’t get you killed.”
She gave a weak smile. “And I’m glad I didn’t get you killed.“}
“If I died because of you, you’d really become my family’s reaper.“}
1 laughed through my tears and refused to let go of her.}
Sebastian was taken to the police station, then handed over to my best friend’s institute.
She told me the chimp was incredibly intelligent. He had let himself be captured.
After seeing me that afternoon, he waited until nightfall then stole the keys and surveillance remote, escaping unnoticed.§ When he captured the real Sebastian, he realized he couldn’t escape easily… so he simply replaced Sebastian.”
His body was larger than Sebastian’s, which was why I noticed something off.”
My instincts had been right all along.
And then I learned the truth.}
The reason the chimp had gone berserk after seeing me…
It was because the person who originally performed the experiment and injected it with IQ–enhancing drugs, was my mother. The chimp and his mate had been captured together.
Only him survived. His mate died in the lab.}
He remembered everything.
He recognized me because I wore a pendant, my mother’s keepsake. A blue gemstone necklace.
He remembered it from my mother’s neck.
So, he knew who I was. But killing me directly would’ve been too easy.
He wanted to play with me first.
When I learned the whole truth, I could only sigh.
Nothing in this world is ever as simple as it seems.” (The End)
