Chapter 1
In the third year of my marriage, I finally got pregnant.
With a lunchbox in hand, I headed to my husband’s office to share the good news,
However, his secretary mistook me for a mistress.
She dumped the food all over my head, stripped off my clothes, and beat me up till I miscarried.
“You’re just a houseworker. How dare you seduce Mr. Galvan and even carry his child?!”
“Today I’ll show you what a bastard child would end up with.”
After teaching me a lesson, she smugly reported to my husband, “Mr. Galvan, I dealt with a houseworker who wanted to seduce you. How are you gonna reward me?”
Lately, I’d been feeling queasy, throwing up everything I eat, so I hit up the hospital for a check–up.
When the doctor told me I was pregnant, tears of joy just rolled down my face.
Desmond Galvan and I were childhood sweethearts. We got hitched right after college and started trying for a baby, but it just wasn’t happening.
He always comforted me, saying, “Let nature take its course; maybe our little one is just waiting for the perfect moment.”
Well, that moment was finally here.
“Ma’am, you’re already four months along. The fetus looks stable, but be careful not to get any hard knocks,” the doctor said.
I gently rubbed my slightly rounded belly with a soft smile, thinking, “Four months already?”
My menstrual cycle had always been off, and when my waistline expanded, I just thought I’d put on some weight recently.
Back home, I couldn’t hold back my excitement. I whipped up some food to surprise Desmond with a special lunch and to tell him the big news in person.
Carrying the lunchbox, I breezed through the doors of Galvan Group without a hitch.
Just as I was about to open Desmond’s office door, a flashy woman stopped me.
“What do you want?” she asked coldly, eyeing me up and down with zero friendliness.

Theld up the lunchbox and said, “I’m here to bring Desmond his lunch.”
Around others, I wasn’t too keen on calling Desmond honey,
She relaxed a bit but still had that mocking tone. “Oh, so you’re the houseworker? I’m Mr. Galvan’s chief secretary, Raelynn Sloan.
“Hand over the food and you can leave.”
But I shook my head. “I’m not the houseworker, and I wanna give Desmond his lunch myself. Please
let me through.”
No sooner had I finished speaking than she flew into a rage and snatched the lunchbox from me. “Who do you think you are? How dare you try to seduce Mr. Galvan?
“And why are you dressed all skanky like that? Today, I’m gonna teach you some manners.”
With that, she dragged me into a conference room, slammed the door shut, and slapped me hard across the face.
My cheek swelled instantly as I hit the floor.
Before I could even react, she kicked me in the head.
The baby!
Ignoring everything else, I curled up to protect my belly.
“Let’s see what you brought for Mr. Galvan,” Raelynn sneered as she opened the lunchbox and dumped it over my head.
The ribs soup I’d spent three hours making dripped from my hair onto the floor.
My scalp burned like fire, but I didn’t dare move for fear of hurting my baby.
“Oh look, there’s spicy chicken too,” she taunted.
“Have a good taste of your crap, bitch!” She yanked my chin up hard enough to make me open my
mouth.
Then she smashed the spicy chicken into
my
face.
My eyes and nose instantly filled with a stinging sensation, and I let out a painful scream.
Raelynn casually dusted off her hands and sneered, “So gross and greasy–It almost ruined my new manicure.”

She looked down at me with disdain, adding, “Don’t tell me you believe that to win a man’s heart, you have to cook his favorite dishes. Someone like you doesn’t deserve to like Mr. Galvan,”
I wanted to explain, but the chili had me coughing uncontrollably.
The chili pepper choked into my trachea, making it impossible for me to speak.
Just then, there was a knock on the conference room door.
“Raelynn, what’s going on in there?”
