Chapter 15 Who’s Better?
Iliana clutched her phone, her grip tightening for a second.
After a while, she gently said, “Don’t bother. I’ll catch up with him when I’m back in Baycastle. No need to rush.”
From then on, Iliana didn’t get any more calls, not even from Bryson.
On the third day, it was Bryson who received a call from the branch office.
“Mr. Jefferson, Ms. Carson still hasn’t shown up for work today. Is she coming in?” It was the HR manager from the branch office calling.
Iliana had moved out for a few days, and she hadn’t shown up at the branch office in days. She was definitely throwing a tantrum.
Her absence was really getting on his nerves.
But lately, Bryson had been swamped with work. A big shot in the industry was pressuring him, so he had been socializing these days, doing everything he could to keep things under control. He just hadn’t had the time to deal with Iliana.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Bryanna walked in with a warm, smiling face and immediately grabbed Bryson’s attention.
“Mr. Jefferson?” the manager asked again over the phone.
Bryson turned his attention back to the call, calmly saying, “Don’t

worry about her. Consider her absent without pay and dock her wages accordingly.”
The manager nodded. “Got it.”
Bryson threw his phone onto the table after ending the call.
Bryanna, noticing the annoyance on his face, asked, “What’s going on, Bryson?”
“After Iliana moved out, she didn’t show up at the branch office or tell me,” Bryson said, his face clouded over. “She’s so rude.”
Bryanna blinked.
She had known for a while that Iliana was planning to quit.
The day Bryanna came back from the hospital, she had slipped into his study and taken Iliana’s resignation papers and letters with her.
So, up until now, Bryson was still in the dark about Iliana’s quit.
“Iliana is really in the wrong here, especially since you asked her to do so. But she just blew it off, which is really thoughtless,” Bryanna said, trying to sound serious. “Bryson, don’t worry. I would never do that.”
Bryson met her gaze, a faint smile playing at his lips, but he stayed silent.
He had known Liana for so many years. He knew her character well.
She probably just threw a tantrum again, waiting for him to soothe her.
But this time, he didn’t have the energy to coddle her.
Bryson said coldly, “If she wants to throw a tantrum, let her. She’ll

On the other side, Iliana woke up early and stood in front of the floor- to–ceiling window, staring outside.
It was late fall, and it was getting cooler.
Soon, she would be heading back home to tie the knot.
Just then, her phone buzzed in her pocket.
She looked down and saw it was her best friend, Lauryn Huffman, calling.
Lauryn was Iliana’s closest friend in Baycastle. Three years ago, when Iliana followed Bryson to Whiteville, Lauryn was the first to oppose. She was the only one who knew the truth. Back then, she said Bryson was a jerk and totally unreliable.
But Iliana was so into Bryson back then and didn’t listen.
“Iliana, I bumped into Gregory the other day,” Lauryn said over the phone, her voice filled with curiosity. “He said you were getting married in Baycastle in about twenty days. Is that true?”
“Yes.” A wry smile spread across Iliana’s face.
“It’s been three years, and you’ve finally seen through him.” Lauryn’s voice was gentle. “Did he do something to make you so resolute?”
“Bryanna came to Whiteville, and now they’re living together, and he even kicked me out,” Iliana said with a bitter smile.
“What did you say?” Lauryn’s voice spiked with surprise. “He actually

kicked you out?”
Iliana laid out the whole story for Lauryn.
They had been together for three years, and Lauryn knew every little thing about their relationship.
“I saw right through it!” Lauryn’s sigh came through the phone. “When you two first started dating, I was totally against it. I never thought he was good enough for you. Since you broke up, don’t look back, okay?”
“Of course,” Iliana said, her eyes turning cold. “I’ll have one last dinner with him, and then we’re done. No more dragging it out.”
Lauryn smiled, “I’m glad you figured it out. When you get back, I’ll take you out and show you a good time.”
“Thanks, Lauryn.” Iliana looked out the window, her eyes softening a bit.
Lauryn’s laughter came through the phone. “Don’t mention it. That’s what friends are for.”
Iliana hung up, her face turning serious.
She went out for a walk, just trying to clear her mind. But the next thing she knew, she was standing in front of a high–end restaurant.
It was her favorite place with Bryson.
It was also where Bryson had confessed his feelings to her.
Iliana was just about to walk past the entrance when she caught sight of two familiar figures.
It was Bryson and Bryanna.

Iliana stopped dead in her tracks.
She subconsciously dodged to the side, watching where they were headed.
Bryanna was drunk, and Bryson was there, steadying her as they headed for the parking lot.
His hand was on her waist.
At that moment, Bryanna seemed to casually lean into Bryson’s arms.
What a flirty scene.
“I told you not to have too many drinks,” Bryson said, his voice soft. “Why did you still drink?”
“Bryson, I just wanted to help you seal the deal. I’ve been here a while, and everyone thought I got the job by pulling strings. I can’t let Iliana beat me…” said Bryanna.
Bryson soothed her, “Come on. Don’t stress about it.
“But I can’t help it,” Bryanna said, slowing down and looking up at him. “Bryson, be honest with me. Is Iliana better than me?”
“You’re great, just the way you are.” Bryson stopped. “You’re really wasted. Let’s go home, okay?”
“No, you have to pick,” Bryanna insisted, clutching his arm. “Me or her, who’s better?”
