Chapter 13 Farewell Dinner
Iliana kept her head down, baffled by his pretense. “I’m moving out.”
Bryson frowned, pressing a hand on her suitcase.
“Are you upset? I know the transfer isn’t fair.” He brushed her hair. “But you’ve always been understanding. Help me out, okay?”
Iliana smiled coldly. “Sure.”
“Staying elsewhere makes sense now that Bryanna’s here.” He pulled out the keys. “Stay at my downtown apartment for a while.”
Iliana paused.
He always did this, masking selfish motives with false sweetness.
Everything he did was for others, yet he called it “for her sake.”
What a cruel joke for those poor souls tangled in his lies.
She took the keys, their edges digging into her palm.
“Fine.”
Iliana nodded calmly, her voice flat.
As she turned to leave, he grabbed her wrist. “Lia, you’re not angry, right?”
His tender facade returned.
Iliana stared back, a flicker of mockery in her eyes.

“Sweetie, can you just behave? I’m swamped with work and really don’t have the energy for this.”
He tried to pull her close. But she stepped away.
“Understood.”
She freed her wrist and continued packing in her room.
After three years here, her belongings were sparse, mostly clothes and toiletries.
After packing her things, she glanced at the keys on the desk, the same apartment key Bryson had handed her that morning.
After a moment’s thought, Iliana opened a rental app and called a property agent named Kevin.
“Hello, is this Kevin? I need an apartment.”
A gentle male voice replied, “Yes. May I have your name?”
“Iliana Carson.”
“Ms. Carson, what are your requirements?“\
“A short–term rental for about twenty days. One bedroom, fully furnished, clean. I need to move in tonight. Any options?”
“I have a two–bedroom unit. The previous tenant left recently. The owner lives across the hall but is rarely here. It’s quiet and well- maintained.”
Living alone in a two–bedroom apartment was excessive, but she had no better options.

She needed to move fast, and finding a sublet this quickly felt like a
small miracle.
“Price?” Iliana asked.
“It’s a sublet, so affordable. I’ll send you photos. If you like it, you can
view it today.”
“Alright.”
After hanging up, Iliana added Kevin on WhatsApp.
The photos and price convinced her instantly.
As she wheeled her suitcase out, she paused.
She hadn’t officially resigned or broken up with Bryson.
She shouldn’t leave without even telling him.
After three years of genuine care, even if she’d given up on Bryson, she still owed their relationship some closure.
Iliana finally released her suitcase and walked to the study.
She took out pen and paper, handwriting her resignation and a letter to Bryson.
She refused the subsidiary transfer and quit outright.
In the letter, she asked to meet him one last time in twenty–six days at the restaurant where they’d first met, a final meal before parting ways forever.
This would be their goodbye.
With this, she and Bryson would end.

All she needed now was to tie up loose ends before returning home to
marry.
She smoothed the resignation and letter on the desk.
By the time she left, it was nearly 3 PM.
When Bryson returned later, Iliana was gone.
To reach the study, he passed the guest room she’d occupied.
He halted mid–step.
His hand gripped the doorknob.
The room stood empty, stripped of every trace of her.
Expression blank, he closed the door and entered the study.
Click.
As the door was pushed open, he strode towards the desk.
At his desk lay Iliana’s resignation and letter.
His eyes locked onto them.
