For the following two days, Alicia was left undisturbed.
Her emotional wounds had started to heal, her body was recovering, and the days passed by in peace. At last, Alicia found a sense of peace.
When the day of her discharge arrived, she went to several places by herself, quietly wiping away all the memories tied to Marcus.
She removed the love lock bearing their names from the marriage bridge, erased the vow engraved into a tree symbolizing eternal commitment, and discarded the yellowing sticky notes with wishes from the café…
As she glanced at these remains, she could still somewhat picture Marcus’s focused and bright eyes as he prayed earnestly, hoping for forever.
At that time, she believed they would indeed journey together until the end. But she never saw it coming that they wouldn’t handle the twists and turns of fate.
After completing everything, Alicia went back home.
As soon as Alicia opened the villa door, she saw Marcus hugging Mandy and kissing her neck.
Alicia didn’t feel anything at all. She strolled right through the living room without even glancing around and headed straight to the bedroom.
Noticing her return without anything, Marcus squinted and called out

after her, “Where have you been? Why are you only getting back now?”
Alicia paused, her tone flat. “I’ve been to many places and done plenty.”
Her indifferent attitude made Marcus’s heart sink, and his voice turned cold.
“Really? Just remember the most important thing, tomorrow’s my birthday.”
It was the first time she’d forgotten Marcus’s birthday, a sign she was finally moving on from him.
She quietly replied, “Well, happy birthday in advance.”
Marcus was so annoyed with her that he let out a sarcastic laugh.
“Is that it? Where’re the cake and the present? Weren’t you always so eager to arrange those things?”
Alicia’s eyes showed a moment of reflection as she remembered his birthdays from the last two years.

The handmade cake had been reduced to crumbs, and the thoughtfully chosen gifts were tossed aside to beggars.
She lowered her head. “I didn’t make any. I don’t enjoy doing that now.”
She was tired of having her feelings brushed aside. She didn’t have feelings for him anymore either.
Unconcerned with how he would react, she shut the bedroom door.

The following day, Alicia slept in until noon. The butler knocked and handed her a formal gown.

“Mr. Daston mentioned that this year’s birthday banquet is planned as usual, and he expects you to be at the hotel on time.”
Alicia responded with an uninterested hum.
The butler observed her expression, paused briefly, and then softly suggested, “Mrs. Daston, it might be a good idea to prepare a birthday gift.”
“Mr. Daston was alone in the living room until midnight yesterday and seemed quite upset.”
Alicia remained silent.
