Chapter 8
After all their years together, Marcus was witnessing Alicia express such deep pain and despair for the first time.
For a moment, he was speechless, unsure of what to say.
After a prolonged silence, he summoned security with a frosty expression.
“You insist you’d die for Callie, yet you’re still here, living. Head to the Catholic Church and seek forgiveness for your sins!”
Following his orders, the bodyguards grabbed her and shoved her into
a car.
Alicia’s freshly bandaged wound reopened, and blood seeped through, turning the gauze red.
She rested against the car window, eyes closed, too tired to protest or fight back.
At the base of the mountain, Marcus made her kneel.
“There are 999 steps. I want you to bow all the way to the top and light a candle for Callie!”
Alicia lifted her weary, bloodshot eyes to see the church shrouded in clouds, surrendering to the task. She bowed low.
If it meant that Callie’s soul could truly be at peace, she would gladly bow a thousand times. From sunrise to midnight, Alicia finally made it to the summit.

Her entire body ached. The pain was so intense that her mind was foggy, yet she compelled herself to stumble into the main hall, offering a bow before the shrine, her words barely coherent.
“Callie, may your soul rest in eternal peace from this moment onward.”
As she whispered these words, her final breath faded away. She fell to the ground, plunging into deep unconsciousness. She saw Callie in the vision.
Callie was still that same happy, charming girl, making funny faces to entertain her and sharing smart thoughts while dropping some deep insights.
“Ally, I understand you’re still caught up in that car accident, unable to let
go of me. But it’s important for you to know that we’ll always remain best friends. More than anything, I want you to find self–love before loving others. Please, let go of the past and begin anew. Take my share of happiness with you, move ahead confidently, and don’t dwell on the past.”
“Callie! Don’t leave!”
As the figure vanished, Alicia woke up crying, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Through her teary eyes, she noticed her empty hands.
She had been holding onto nothing.
The nonstop downpour that had been bugging her for three years was finally letting up.
The cold that had settled deep inside her and the constant pain that had held her tight were slowly starting to fade.

It was as if she had emerged from that blood–soaked car, truly and finally alive again.
