Chapter 5
It was raining heavily.
Alicia stood by the side of the road, watching as the sports car sped away, using a small medicine bag to barely protect herself from the downpour.
She attempted to hail a cab to get home, but the rain was so intense that no vehicle stopped for her.
With her body aching, she had no choice but to walk home, step by step. A cold, damp wind sliced through the air, sinking deep into her bones.
Her legs were so weak that she had to stop and rest every few steps. What should’ve taken an hour ended up dragging on for five grueling hours.
The moment she arrived at the villa gate, she couldn’t stay conscious any longer. Her vision blurred into darkness, and she passed out.

That night, Alicia was burning with a high fever, as though she were being grilled over an open flame. Her body felt completely drained, and her throat hurt so badly it seemed she might cough up blood.
Despite her frail condition, the butler woke her at dawn. “Mr. Daston has ordered that you pack up your belongings in the next few days.”
Alicia had to push herself to get up and start packing.

she had purchased for Marcus, the gifts and love letters he had given her throughout their relationship, and every other item.
She discarded them all, one by one.
The butler quickly stepped in. “Mrs. Daston, Mr. Daston wanted these moved to the guest room, not thrown out.”
Alicia shook her head with a hint of bitterness. “I understand, but I won’t be needing these things any longer.”
As she looked around the now mostly empty villa, the exhausted Alicia was just about to rest in the guest room when she heard someone call her.
“Come help Mandy with the gifts. She’s just recovered, and I want to make sure she doesn’t get exhausted.”
Turning around, Alicia noticed Marcus standing at the door with Mandy, surrounded by a mountain of gift boxes.
She massaged her aching forehead and slowly shuffled over, leaning down. The first box contained a magnificent wedding dress.
Mandy held it up against herself with pride, her voice full of boastfulness.
“I told Marcus I wanted a wedding dress, and he chose this one for me. Gorgeous, right?”
Gazing at the pristine white veil, Alicia felt a lump in her throat as memories of wearing her wedding dress and marrying him with complete hope flooded back.
She bit her lip and opened the second gift, revealing a 20–carat diamond ring.

Mandy lifted it and slid it onto her index finger, flaunting it before Alicia’s eyes.
“Marcus said I’m his only wife now, and he’s going to give me everything that comes with being Mrs. Daston.”
The diamond caught Alicia’s eye. She looked down at her bare finger, thinking of the wedding ring she’d lost, tossed aside after the accident.
The third gift box revealed a love letter.
As Alicia unwrapped each gift, memories from the past resurfaced, causing her heart to sting repeatedly.
Over time, she became desensitized, her eyes reflecting only a deep exhaustion.

By the time she opened the final box, she was too dazed to comprehend its contents.

Mandy snuggled closer to him, her cheeks turning pink. “Marcus and I ran out of from the house, so he bought an entire box. He insisted we use one daily. Go grab one now.
Alicia, with her blistered hand, hesitantly picked up a pack from the box of condoms and shakily tore it open. She then wobbled over and set it down in front of them.
Marcus pulled Mandy into his arms, his hand sliding under her skirt, making her let out a soft gasp.

Marcus shot her a sideways glance, noticing how exhausted she looked. For a moment, a flicker of satisfaction crossed his face.
“Not going? Prefer to stick around for the live drama?”
Alicia’s face turned ghostly white. Avoiding his gaze, she headed
