“You’re right. How could you possibly feel any compassion for the person who took your sister’s life? She’s lost both her cherished partner and her closest friend.‘

“If I were in her shoes, I’d be too ashamed to go on living. Marcus, don’t be upset. I’ll stay with you all night, in any way you prefer. After we’ve had our fun, your heart will stop hurting…”
Alicia’s breath hitched. She couldn’t bear to listen any longer and shut off the video. It was as if two ribs had been ripped from her chest; the pain was unbearable.
She clutched h
chest in pain, soaking the quilt with tears. It wasn’t until she realized she’d been crying nonstop that her hazy mind finally started to clear.
Reflecting on the scattered memories of past years, she remembered that ridiculous wife–swapping game.
For the first time, Alicia felt truly hopeless–like ending it all might be the only way out. She realized she had been living fantasy.

After Callie passed away, any chance with Marcus had vanished. He might finally be able to move on if she weren’t there at all.
As soon as the sun came up, she decided to call Nolan Kecith- Mandy’s husband, the so–called devoted ascetic from New York’s elite circles.
With a raspy voice, she spoke, “Mr. Kecith, this is Alicia. I’ve heard

that you’ve recently agreed to join a wife–swapping arrangement. Could you tell me… why you decided to do this?”
When she introduced herself, Nolan responded with a detached tone.
“Why?
“I married Mandy to satisfy our families. I provide her with 1.5 million dollars each month, and she pretends to be my wife. There’s no emotional connection between us.”
“She has feelings for your husband and wanted to be with him before our official marriage, so I allowed it.”
Alicia inhaled deeply. “If your goal is just to please your family by having a wife, I think I could fulfill that role better than she could.”
“Honestly, Mr. Kecith, I want this wife–swapping game to turn into something real!”
Her voice shook with nervousness as she spoke, and her heart raced with uncertainty.
The silence on the other end dragged out, and Alicia braced herself for
a no.
But to her surprise, Nolan responded, “Alright.”
Alicia was shocked at first, but she quickly calmed down. They then started to ask each other about their lives.
Nolan and Mandy’s wedding was planned, but Nolan had been in a remote highland monastery for the past year. He planned to make their marriage official next month when he returned.
Alicia and Marcus, on the other hand, got married but hadn’t registered

their marriage because of a car accident, and they still haven’t done that after three years.
So, neither couple needed to get a divorce.
Upon hearing the news, Alicia’s eyes filled with tears. It was like fate was giving her a chance to think again about a bad marriage.
She looked down and requested, “Mr. Kecith, I would like to have a wedding so that everyone knows we are together. Is that alright?”
That way, she could finally cut Marcus off from everything.
“Agreed. I’ll take care of the arrangements.
When Nolan agreed, Alicia began to cry.
“Then, how about we set the wedding for the day the wife–swap ends- right when our families wrap up the exchange? Does that work for you?”
The moment the words were spoken, the hospital room door burst open.
Marcus entered with a frown. “What are you going to do when the game is over?”
Alicia swiftly ended the call, brushed away her tears, and faced him. “You’ll see.”
