Chapter 2
The light faded, and the long night settled in. Alicia felt like she was in a dream.
In this dream, she found herself back at the age of 16. It was a time when school uniforms of teenagers swayed in the breeze.
Marcus leaned her against the hallway wall and softly kissed her lips. “Ally, I like you. Do you like me?”
Alicia’s cheeks flushed pink. Before she could answer, her best friend, Callie Daston, ran over with a grin and playfully covered her eyes.
“Oh my! What did I just witness? Ally, you have to say yes to my brother! I can only accept you as my sister–in–law.”
That year, Alicia had a best friend she shared everything with and a boyfriend who cherished her deeply. From that point on, through high school and college, the three of them were nearly inseparable.
On their college graduation day, Callie placed a veil on Alicia’s head, and Marcus proposed to her. She joyfully accepted, confident that this happiness would last forever.
On their wedding day, as the three of them set out for a drive, a truck collided with their car, causing it to flip over. Callie, seated in the passenger seat, was killed instantly.
In that instant, all of Alicia’s dreams for the future and family life were
shattered.
Marcus, who was behind the wheel, endured a heavy blow and lost all

memory of the day’s events.
When he woke up and heard the devastating news, Alicia could see the crushing guilt in his eyes. Afraid he wouldn’t be able to handle knowing he caused his sister’s death, she made up a story, saying it was all her fault.
Alicia announced to everyone that she was the one behind the wheel that day.
Callie was adored by all, and with the loss of their cherished daughter and sister, the Daston family had no way to release their anguish, making Alicia the focus of their anger.
Henry Daston and Maria Daston, who once adored her, had to

Overwhelmed by sorrow, Marcus struggled to accept that the

he cherished was now seen as the “enemy” responsible for his sister’s death.
He opted to inflict pain on both her and himself repeatedly.
Three years into their marriage, Alicia could do nothing but observe as he invited one woman after another into their home.
She knew that he didn’t really care about those women. His actions were meant to hurt her because seeing her cry was the only way for him to deal with his own pain.
When Alicia woke up in the morning, she found herself in a hospital. The room was empty. She leaned against a pillow that was wet with tears as she tried to sit up.

The simple bandage on her wound had come loose, and blood was steadily oozing out. The pain was so bad that she broke out in a cold
sweat.
She asked the nurse standing by the door for assistance with the bandage, but the nurse declined.
“I’m sorry, but Mrs. Daston from the Daston Group has sprained her ankle. All medical staff are required to rotate in the VIP ward to care for her these days. You’ll need to manage your wound on your own.”

“Mrs. Daston from the Daston Group… Could it be Mandy?” Alicia thought.
Clenching her teeth to endure the pain, she treated the wound with medicine.
As she was about to wrap it with a bandage, a message from Mandy appeared.
The video was completely dark, offering no visuals, but the audio played clearly.
“Ah… Marcus, take it easy. You should pay Ms. Walsh a visit.”
A man’s cold voice mixed with suggestive breathing emerged from the speaker.
“Visit her? I’d rather she were dead.”
