Chapter 7
Seeing her smile, the gloom on Isaiah’s face instantly lifted
“Gen, you know you’re the only one in my heart“||
“I was such an ass the other day. Whatever you want, baby, just tell me I’ll move mountains to make it happen. Please don’t stay mad at me like this-“]
He leaned closer, his voice all pitiful like he was about to cry
Genesis used to be a sucker for this act he could always sweet–talk her into forgiving him. But now she just felt like she was looking at a stranger, her heart cold as ice
Genesis watched the pleading in his eyes, then slowly curved her lips into a smile.||
“Okay then, have Sadie marry someone else.”
The smile froze on Isaiah’s face. His mouth twitched for ages before he forced out a strained grin.
“Come on, Gen. Don’t be like that.”
He reached to touch her face, but Genesis turned away. “She’s my sister–are you really gonna get jealous over that? Come on, pick something else, anything. You know I’d do anything for you.”
Genesis’s smile got even wider.
She knew it. The second Sadie was involved, all his grand promises crumbled like wet paper
“I was kidding.” Her smile faded, voice turning cold. “You two do whatever you want. You don’t need to run it by me.
Seeing she’d dropped the Sadie issue, Isaiah relaxed and smiled again, reaching over to pat her head!]
“I knew my girl would get it I gotta take care of some stuff now, but you rest up, okay sweethear17|
The moment his footsteps faded down the hall, Genesis’s face completely fell
So that’s what all the hovering and pampering had been about these past three days.]
Not guilt, not concern–just making sure she wouldn’t throw a wrench in his perfect little setup for Sadie
She gave a bitter smile and pulled her phone from under the pillow, calling Natalie
“Nat, are my divorce papers ready?”
on the other e end stretched so long Genesis thought the call had dropped, until Natalie’s strained voice finally came through.||
The silence on
“Genesis… you and Isaiah aren’t married. That marriage certificate you showed me. It’s fake…“]
Genesis went completely rigid, ears ringing ||
She gripped the phone tighter, voice shaking: “What… what did you say?“]
“It’s true.” Natalie’s voice was careful, gentle. “I had someone check. You’re legally single, Isaiah’s divorced“]
“His ex–wife is Sadie. They just finalized their divorce two months ago. That marriage certificate of yours–the official stamp is forged, and the document…. It’s a knockoff from some dollar store. You two were never legally married.”
Natalie’s voice started breaking as she spoke.]
That grand wedding of Genesis’s had been the talk of the entire city. Everyone had envied her fairy–tale romance.
But the whole marriage had been built on lies from day one.
With trembling hands, Genesis opened the search screenshots Natalie had sent.]
The screen’s pale light cast an eerie glow on her equally pale face
Line after line of cold, brutal text stabbed at her like poisoned needles, making her eyes burn with pain.
That heart that had been shattered countless times, painstakingly pieced back together with what little strength she had left, was now being smashed to smithereens all over again
She’d been a homewrecker. A mistress for ten whole years!
Ten years!]
From seventeen to twenty–seven–she’d wasted the best decade of her life on this man, and she didn’t even have a real marriage to show for it.
How fucking pathetic
The agony in her legs combined with the suffocating pain in her chest, and Genesis couldn’t keep up that calm facade anymore
The hospital room erupted with her desperate, heart–wrenching sobs–so raw and broken that even the patient in the next bed started tearing up.l
Finally, she struggled out of bed, burning with hatred as she grabbed her crutch and limped toward Isaiah’s office
When Isaiah saw her in his doorway, his face lit up with joy–until he noticed her shaking legs and ashen complexion. His brow furrowed with concern as he rushed toward her.
“Gen, what are you doing here? You OK? How’s your leg feeling?”
He reached out to steady her, but Genesis violently shoved him away.|
Genesis held up her phone in front of his face, her eyes full of devastation: “Isaiah, I wish I’d never met you.“]
That stung, making Isaiah frown, but when he saw what was on her screen, all the blood drained from his face
He frantically grabbed the phone, scrolling faster and faster, his expression getting darker by the second until he stopped on the chat where Genesis told Natalie she wanted a divorce
-You want a divorce?”
He snapped his head up, the panic in his eyes turning vicious: “You want to leave me?”
Genesis sniffled, tears mixed with hatred streaming down her cheeks as she stared him down
“Yes! You’re a fucking maniac, and I never want to see your face again! Stay the hell away from me!“]
She snatched her phone back and started dialing Nolan’s mumber with shaking fingers.]
But before the call could connect, Isaiah ripped the phone from her hands and hurled it to the Door.
CRACK–the screen shattered instantly.
Genesis looked up in shock, meeting Isaiah’s bloodshot eyes.
Gone was any trace of gentleness–only terrifying, possessive madness remained[]
“I’m never letting you go.”
Genesis trembled but gritted her teeth and turned to leave
But she’d barely taken two steps when a sharp pain shot through her neck.
Everything went black as she collapsed into unconsciousness.
