Chapter 20
Three years later, Italy.]
In the rest area outside the rally training base, several blonde, blue eyed drivers were chatting while looking toward the track]
“Did you hear? There’s some American dark horse here this time. Only been racing for three years, but he’s swept every championship back the States. This is his first international competition–a lot of people are betting on him to win. I mean, come on, how good can he really be?”
“An American racer? Better not sleep on them.“[]
Another tall driver clicked his tongue. “You forget about that American female coach? In just three years, she’s cranked out five F1 female champions. These past few years, she’s been wiping the floor with us guys left and right.“[]
Anna caught bits of their conversation and chuckled, shaking her head as she headed back to her team’s rest area.
She grabbed a bottle of water from the cooler and pressed it against her resting coach’s cheek.
“Boss, those losers are gossiping about you again. In their eyes, you’re basically the grim reaper of racing.”
Genesis jolted from the cold, pulled the book off her face, and sat up. She cracked open the bottle and took a gulp of ice water, one eyebrow arched: “Let them talk all they want. Just focus on your own driving Your speed and consistency have both tanked during training. Keep this up and I’ll bench you–there’s a whole waiting list of people who’d kill for your spot.”
Anna had been with Genesis for three years and knew her tough exterior hid a caring heart. She grinned: “Yeah, yeah, I got it. Just need to adjust to this weather. Italy’s humidity is killing me.”
“Oh, did you hear about that American mystery driver?”
Genesis nodded while massaging her knee.
Though her legs hadn’t been completely destroyed back then, they’d been left damaged. They ached whenever the weather turned damp.
“I heard. Looked at his stats and race footage.” Her tone was matter–of–fact. “For you, he’s nothing to sweat about.”
The American racer was enigmatic–never showed his face during races, and no media outlet had managed to snag a clear photo of him.[]
But Genesis felt an odd sense of familiarity, occasionally reminded of someone from her past.
She quickly shook off the thought–it couldn’t be him.
That person had never cared about racing. His whole life revolved around becoming a respectable doctor
Besides, he and Sadie had been so “devoted to each other. After her “death,” he should have been celebrating. Why would he throw away his career and switch paths?
She gazed out at the track, lost in thought, when her phone buzzed. “Nolan Whitaker lit up the screen
“Where are you? I’m coming to get you.“[]
Genesis unconsciously frowned: “Don’t bother, I can drive myself“]
A brief pause. “I’m outside the training center. You coming out, or do I need to come drag you out?”
Genesis sighed in defeat: “Fine, I’m coming.“]]

From the day Anna met Genesis, this man named Nolan had been by her side.
At first, Anna assumed they were married, but their dynamic seemed off. Then she figured they were dating, but that d

as the class president and school
Nolan and Genesis had been high school classmates. Back then, he was this rebellious military brat, and she was beauty who carried racing car models everywhere, dreaming of world championship glory.
Freshman year, neither gave the other a second thought.
Until Nolan accidentally crushed Genesis’s prized racing car model. From that moment on. Genesis never gave Nolan a pleasant look and would report his misbehavior at every opportunity.
After getting hauled to the principal’s office with his parents countless times, Nolan finally connected the dots.
Through careful detective work, he caught onto Genesis’s sabotage campaign.]
That’s when he forced Genesis to be his desk partner for the next three years.]
Every time Genesis snitched on him, he’d confiscate her racing models and turn them over to the teacher
Eventually, they reached an unofficial ceasefire, but Nolan felt this weird emptiness inside.
That’s when he belatedly realized he’d fallen for the girl who was always at odds with him
