Chapter 21
“Is it necessary? This society was always harsh on women. I could almost guess how people would judge me, even if I was the victim in that
marriage.”
“They would say, she was really capable, but unfortunately met the wrong people.”
“She could design the best work, but she couldn’t handle a relationship well.”
“She was good at everything, but sadly, she still wasn’t loved.”
“More importantly, I really didn’t want Graham to be a stain I could never wipe off in my life.”
“To be honest, it was pretty gross.
The last three words of the recording felt like a knife stabbing into Graham’s heart.
His hands were shaking, and he almost couldn’t even stand.
“I… I wanted to see her. If she….she turned me down, I wouldn’t show up in front of her again.”
“Mr. Dorrick.”
Rylan smiled, but there was never any real smile in his eyes.
“Five years ago, Melody kept getting depressed and tried to kill herself seven times. For her to live as beautifully and vividly as she does today, even a little less luck wouldn’t have been enough.”

“Back then, did you still want to see her?”
Graham didn’t even know how he left, but he knew he’d never have the right to see Melody again.
The phone rang, it was Doris calling.
“Did you see her? She was Melody, right?”
Another sharp, intense pain hit Graham’s stomach. He curled
up
and
crouched on a strange street, tears falling down.
“Graham, say something! I was about to buy a plane ticket to find Melody,
I…”
Graham let out a bitter laugh.
“When she needed you the most, you didn’t want her.”
“And now, she was already past the time when she needed you guys. Do you think she would still want you?”
There was a moment of silence in the mic.
Graham didn’t say anything else, and hung up the phone.
The phone buzzed–it was the pathology results from the hospital when I had that stomach problem:
…late–stage stomach cancer.
Graham stared at those four words for a while, then suddenly laughed.
It was fine, Melody didn’t want him anymore.

Chapter 21
Top floor office.
When Rylan pushed the door open, Melody glanced at him and kept working.
Rylan didn’t bother her either, just leaned against the window and watched her work.
When Melody finally ended, he let out a low laugh.
“Pretty good.
“Huh?”
She wasn’t influenced by Graham, which was good.
Rylan didn’t explain either, just walked over and hugged her, resting his head on her shoulder.
“Melody, I loved you.”
Melody raised her eyebrows. She had lost count of how many times he had said those three words, but she still didn’t respond.
She and Rylan never officially started, but their unclear relationship lasted for four years. The only thing she was sure about was that she liked him physically.
“Rylan.
Rylan looked up.
Melody leaned over and kissed the corner of his mouth, “How about we get married?”
Rylan was stunned, always a calm person, but now totally lost.

“I’m pregnant, my kid can’t be an illegitimate child, we could get divorced after the baby was born.”
Melody was clear and organized, “You’re the kid’s father, so I asked you first. If you don’t want to, I’ll ask someone else…”
“Sure, we wouldn’t get divorced either.”
Rylan held her hand, his eyes a little red.
Melody looked into his eyes and said, “I don’t love you, or maybe I just don’t love you that much.”
“It’s okay, you just need to love yourself, I’ll come love you.” Rylan said without hesitation.
In an instant, ripples swept over my heart.
Melody laughed.
”
She thought she would never have kids again, but heaven finally looked out for her this time. She wanted to give her child all the love she never got.
Maybe someday in the future, she would give the same love back to Rylan.
Maybe it didn’t.
But Melody, who lived again, never forgot at any time: she loved herself
the most.
