Alpine Mountain Range, inside the lodge,
Peter sat quietly beneath the snow pine, gazing at the mountain range outside.
“Kim, I’ve already found Samantha. She’s not carrying my child. Do you believe me now?”
In his eyes, Kim in her pure white cotton coat leaned close against him.
“I believe you, but I still won’t agree to get back together.”
Peter looked baffled. “Why?
Kim, I still love you, and you love me too. Why can’t we reconcile?”
Kim turned toward the distance. “I wanted you to stand firmly by my side against your friend, but you couldn’t.”
At her words, Peter recalled what Kim had said to Samantha during their return to Philadelphia. His expression shift- ed abruptly.
“Kim, I wasn’t refusing to stand with you. I thought it was just friendly banter.
I’ve changed now. From now on, whatever you say goes. I’ll follow your lead.”
Hearing this, Kim across from him turned her head. “Really?”
Peter nodded fervently. “I swear. If a single word I say is false, may lightning strike me five times.”
Before he finished, Kim quickly covered his mouth.
“Don’t say that. I trust you.”
Peter instantly pulled her into an embrace. “Really?
You forgive me?”
“Mhm.”
Kim’s voice was soft, yet to him it sounded like heavenly music.
“Wonderful, Kim. I’m so happy.”
After three years of longing and waiting, he’d finally gotten her back.
The woman in his arms was the one he’d loved for years. Overwhelmed, Peter poured out everything to her-

his years of yearning for her, his dreams of their future together.
As they spoke, several hikers in windbreakers approached from afar.
Led by a guide, they slowly made their way toward the lodge.
Arriving outside, one noticed the fading daylight and suggested staying overnight.
The guide gave him a strange look.
“The owner here isn’t quite right in the head. You sure you want to stay?”
Intrigued, the group’s curiosity ignited.
“What’s the story?
Tell us!”
They glanced at Peter-tall, strikingly handsome, with eyes so intense they seemed to pull you in.
The guide sighed. “He’s got delusions. Always talking to his lover in the air.”
Following the guide’s gaze, they noticed Peter sitting under the tree, his lips parting and closing toward empty space.
As they murmured in astonishment, Diana burst through the entrance with a group.
“Please take my son away!”
With a wave of her hand, the team swiftly escorted Peter outside.
Caught off guard by the sudden turn, Peter struggled.
“Mom, where are you taking me?”
He hadn’t expected Diana to seize him without warning.
Diana’s heart ached, remembering the hospital’s call that morning.
“The sanatorium.”
Her son had lost his mind. As his mother, she felt responsible-but mostly heartbroken.
Three years ago, after the breakup, Peter drowned himself in alcohol, drifting through each day.
Now, after three years, his mind had fractured. He spent his days talking to himself in the air.
She initially thought it would pass in a few days, but today the hospital contacted her, saying her son Peter had devel- oped mental issues requiring counseling, or it would affect his future work and life.
The more she thought about it, the sadder she became.

Her son Peter already had physical problems, and now he had mental issues too. What would become d
future?
“Mom, I’m fine. Why are you taking me to the sanatorium?”
Diana walked up to Peter and sighed.
“Son, I don’t want to send you to the sanatorium either, but you have to go now.”
With that, she had Peter taken to the car.
