Chapter 16
Hearing this, Peter Jackson’s face darkened: “Mom!
What about me?”
“What about you?
Then what about Samantha?
She’s been with you for two years as a maiden, carrying your child now, yet you’d have her abort and leave.
I can’t bear the shame, nor can the Jackson family.”
Had she not come today, she’d have lost a grandchild.
“But Mom, I never liked her from the start. I’ve tried accepting her these two years-I just can’t.”
Peter clenched the ring in his hand, heart bleeding.
He’d only ever loved Kim Lee. He couldn’t force himself anymore.
Diana Jackson held Samantha Wright’s hand.
“Liking her doesn’t matter. Marry her-that’s all.”
The Jacksons needed an heir. Peter’s three-day burial under snow had damaged his body, likely leaving him infertile. Samantha’s unborn child might be their only hope. She’d never let Samantha abort.
“Mom…”
Peter looked at her helplessly, lost for words.
Diana ignored him, sweeping him with a glance before declaring:
“Once you recover, I’ll arrange your wedding. You don’t get to refuse.”
With that, she led Samantha out.
Alone again in the ward with Raymond Rodriguez, Peter gazed silently at the rain outside, whispering:
“Why must everyone push me toward Samantha?”
Raymond averted his eyes: “The snow damaged your core. You may never father children again.”
Peter’s pupils contracted sharply: “What did you say?”
Having started, Raymond laid it bare:

“Frostbite damage below. Samantha’s child could be your last.”
He exhaled heavily, expecting Peter’s compliance. Instead came refusal:
“Even so, I won’t marry her.”
“Why?”
Raymond couldn’t grasp it-the obvious solution rejected.
Peter smiled bitterly.
“Not loving her was unfair already. With my condition now? Worse injustice.”
He refused endless family disputes. Suddenly he asked: “Does Samantha know?”
Raymond shook his head: “Just the doctor, me, and your mother.”
Peter called Samantha immediately:
“Keep the child. But I won’t marry you.”
Her trembling voice pierced through instantly:
“Why?
Your mother agreed! Peter, I’ve wanted to marry you since our first meeting.
Why refuse now when everyone consents?”
Her quivering plea would move anyone-but Peter remained unmoved.
“Sorry. Kim is the only one in my heart. My mother wants this child-have it if you wish.”
“If you don’t want it, you can get rid of it. But I will never marry you.”
Silence hung for several seconds before the voice came through: “Is your ex Kim?”
Peter tightened his grip on the phone. “Yes.”
“Fine!
I agree.”
Samantha hung up immediately after speaking.
Seeing her agreement, Peter let out a long breath.
As long as she agreed, everything else would be manageable.
