When they first rescued Peter, he was barely breathing.
He spent two days in the ICU before they finally saved him.
“Buried in the snow for three days and nights?”
But Kim had pulled him out right after the avalanche, so how did he get frostbite?
“Are you lying to me?”
Peter stared at Raymond, his eyes dark and intense.
Raymond’s heart skipped a beat. “Peter, we’ve been brothers for years. Why would I lie?”
“The doctor’s report is right here. See for yourself.”
Peter took the report from Raymond and scanned every line.
It stated he’d been frozen in the Alps for three days, with nerve damage risking permanent lameness.
Reading the report, he remembered what happened after being buried.
Kim’s appearance felt so real. Even now, he could recall the delicate warmth when their hands touched.
She must’ve left him in the snow again because she hated him being with Samantha.
If he settled things with Samantha properly, Kim would surely return.
Thinking this, Peter slowly closed his eyes again.
As Raymond turned to leave, Peter’s eyes snapped open, frantically patting his hospital gown.
“Where’s the ring I had?
Did you see it?”
“A ring?
What ring?”
Raymond stopped, confused.
When they found Peter, he only had a phone-no ring whatsoever.
Just then, the door creaked open as Samantha wheeled in.

“Is this what you’re looking for?”
She extended her hand, holding out an object.
Peter turned to see Samantha holding a ring split cleanly in two.
His gaze froze as he snatched it. “How did it break?”
It was perfectly intact before he blacked out. What happened?
Meeting Peter’s stare, Samantha choked out, “It was already broken when I found it.”
She’d taken this ring from Peter’s clenched fist when discovering him in the Alps.
His fingers had been vise-tight around the shattered pieces.
Seeing him cling to it even unconscious, she’d kept it safe.
“Was this your ex’s?”
Peter nodded. “Yes.”
Watching Peter cradle the broken ring, Samantha’s eyes instantly reddened.
“I understand. I’ll schedule an abortion right away.”
As she spoke, the door banged open violently.
“Samantha, don’t you dare!”
Diana rushed in. “Peter, this is your child! You can’t just discard it!”
“Diana.”
Samantha looked up at her with tear-filled eyes.
“This child is cursed-unworthy to be your grandchild. Its life would be misery.”
Better no child than one rejected by its own father.
“How could it be cursed?
You’re the only woman I accept as my daughter-in-law. Only you deserve to bear the Jackson heir.”
Diana gazed at her tenderly. “Tell me, do you want to become my daughter-in-law?”
Samantha Wright looked at Diana Jackson’s gentle expression, tears falling like scattered pearls.
“Mrs. Jackson, of course I want to, but Peter…”
Diana reached out and pulled her into an embrace.
