Chapter 14

“Peter, Peter, wake up…’

The moment Kim’s figure vanished, cold sweat soaked Peter’s entire back.

He opened his eyes abruptly: “Kim…”

The wind howled outside, Peter looked out, his whole being exuding a desolate aura.

Seeing him awake, Raymond approached.

“Peter, are you awake?”

Peter had been unconscious for a week, now he was finally awake.

“Peter, while you were unconscious, you kept saying Kim’s name, haven’t you forgotten her?”

Raymond thought about how Peter had been calling Kim’s name every day this week.

Luckily Samantha isn’t here, or she’d be heartbroken.

Hearing “Kim’s” name, Peter’s vacant eyes finally showed a glimmer of light.

“Where’s Kim?”

“Where is she?”

Raymond hadn’t expected that even after waking up, Peter was still most concerned about Kim.

He involuntarily raised his voice: “She’s dead, her body burned to ashes.”

Peter recalled the past events, his eyes bloodshot: “She’s not dead, I saw her, she saved me.”

The events after being buried in snow were vivid, he’d never forget that slender figure.

That was Kim, but it seemed she didn’t want him anymore.

Peter closed his eyes, bitterness surged in his heart like a tidal wave,

Raymond scoffed lightly: “You think too well, why would that stingy woman save you?”

“The workers on the Alps and Samantha saved you.”

Who knows what Peter was thinking, going into the mountains during an avalanche.

Even the workers’ attempts to stop him were useless, finally, they spent three days digging him out of the Alps.

At that time, Peter had only a breath left, his whole body stiff.

If not for Samantha warming him back with her body heat, he’d be lying in that little box now.

Hearing Raymond’s words, Peter turned back mechanically.

“She’s not a stingy woman, it’s my fault, I shouldn’t have failed to speak up for her when you joked.”

On the way to the Alps alone, he had flipped through Kim’s phone over and over.

She had written many messages to him in the phone notes.

Turns out, she had always loved him, but because he never spoke up for her, she felt it was pointless.

She wanted his unconditional support, hoped he would always stand behind her.

But he had never done it.

Even back then, on the way from the Alps to Philadelphia.

When talking about reasons for breaking up, Samantha said, “If your brothers ever badmouth me, you must defend

me.”

At that moment, he realized how wrong he had been all those years.

“Right, she’s not stingy, what about Samantha?”

“Now she’s not only carrying your child, but also ended up in the hospital saving you, what kind of person is she?”

“Two years, and you want to break up with her?”

Thinking of Samantha lying in the hospital bed now, Raymond felt it wasn’t worth it for her.

Loving someone for years, now Peter actually wants to break up with her for a dead person.

Peter Jackson’s fingers trembled: “I don’t love her. I don’t want to hold her back anymore.”

He’d tried for two years. No more self-deception.

“But we’ve all seen everything Samantha’s done for you these years. Lose her, and you might never find another girl like her.”

Peter shook his head. Samantha truly was wonderful, but love couldn’t be forced.

A forced relationship would only bring pain to both.

Raymond Rodriguez sighed, falling silent.

His heart ached for Samantha, yet he couldn’t sway Peter’s decision.

As their conversation ended, the waiting physician approached to examine Peter.

“Aside from the frostbite areas needing treatment, everything else looks normal.”

“Frostbite?”

Only then did Peter notice the bandages swathing his body, bloodstains seeping through beneath them. Raymond averted his gaze, murmuring softly.

“You were buried in the snow for three days and nights. Severe frostbite in multiple areas. Still healing.” “The doctor says rest is crucial now. Otherwise, complications may follow.”
