With the money, I took my brother, Ryan, overseas for the most advanced medical treatment.
During that time, the Millers made headlines several times. “Sources reveal the young Mr. Miller frequently runs away, and each time, he’s found
at an animal shelter!”
“Breaking news across the net: Which kennel will Cole Miller grace with his presence today?”
“Unusual! We’ve heard of transgender, but Mr. Miller has apparently crossed species today, caught on camera spending time with dogs again!”
Finally, one day, the Millers put an end to all the public speculation by establishing a substantial stray dog foundation. After that, I never saw any
news about Cole Miller online again.
The comments, however, still popped up occasionally, as if the story had finally gotten back on track: the Little Ray of Sunshine tirelessly warming the male lead.
But I always felt a little hollow inside,
Ryan’s illness had been a constant struggle for three years, a cycle of remission and relapse, until one spring day, he suddenly took a turn for the
better.
“Sue, let’s go home.“I was flipping through his medical reports. “Don’t worry, Ry, I have plenty of money, enough for your treatment.”
Ryan wasn’t my biological brother. After my parents abandoned me, he took me in and raised me. He was my only family.
“Sue,” he said softly, “you’ve been distracted lately. My health is pretty good now, I just need to recuperate back home.”
I wanted to insist, but Ryan was adamant about going back. I had no choice but to concede.
