Chapter 9
This time, I didn’t even need to speak.
Griffin, who had been holding it in for so long, finally exploded.
“Miles Grant! How could I have a son as foolish as you? Is the mess you’ve made still not big enough? Do you want to drag our entire family down with you before you’re satisfied?” he bellowed.
He facepalmed out of frustration, looking deeply disappointed that Miles wasn’t living up to his potential.
“Miles! Do you seriously still not understand why I arranged this marriage in the first place? I usually turn a blind eye whenever you act out, but this time, you just had to offend Ms. Jackman of all people!”
Griffin grew more upset as he spoke. He was so furious that he even stomped his foot.
In truth–and I wasn’t pretending to be modest–what he said wasn’t even an exaggeration. Especially considering that Miles‘ secretary even damaged my commander’s car
Under his father’s desperate scolding, Miles finally snapped out of his daze.
“Dad, are you saying this woman is so influential that even people like us can’t afford to cross her?” he asked.
In that moment, every single person present looked at me with newfound fear in their eyes–especially Cece. She trembled as she hid in the crowd, not even daring to meet my gaze.
“Mr. Miles, you should be glad you didn’t take things even further earlier. Otherwise, bankruptcy would’ve been the least of your worries,” I stated.
Miles looked as though he were about to cry. His voice choked as he begged, “Ev… Ms. Jackman, I know I was wrong. It’s my fault for being blind and not knowing who I was messing with. I shouldn’t have underestimated your abilities.
“How about this? Since our marriage has already been arranged, let’s go to city hall tomorrow to register our marriage!”
I smirked and shot him a meaningful look.
“Mr. Miles, whatever you say now is already too late. You’ve already returned the engagement gift, so it wouldn’t make sense to take it back,” I retorted.
Like a lightning bolt from the blue, my words left Miles hanging his head in silence.
Looking at Grant Enterprise’s current situation, even Griffin, the founder, could only sigh quietly at the side.
An eerie silence befell the scene. Everyone was now wondering what I would do to the Grant family next.
After a moment, I turned to the dejected–looking Griffin. Letting out a soft sigh, I offered, “Mr. Griffin, out of respect for my father, I’m willing to let the Grant family off the hook, but on one condition.”
His eyes lit up instantly.
“Name it, Ms. Jackman. As long as it saves my family, I’ll do whatever you ask!” he answered eagerly.
I smiled mysteriously as I pointed at the still–sobbing Miles.
“Mr. Griffin, have you ever heard of the saying ‘you made your bed, now lie in it‘?” I asked,
Miles‘ expression immediately changed when he heard that.
“What the hell do you mean by that? Don’t tell me you want my father to cut ties with me for our family’s sake and kick me out?” he questioned.
I spread my hands and flashed him a superficial smile. “Mr. Miles, weren’t you the one begging me earlier to spare your family? Well, I’m offering a solution now. But you’re not happy with it. Wow, it’s not easy being the good guy.”
Gesturing toward the Vermilion SUV in the distance, I continued, “My superior’s car took a hit. Someone’s gotta be held responsible, right? And given Ms. Wallace’s current standing, it won’t be enough if she takes the fall. You, on the other hand, are just right.”
The last line was meant for Griffin. Aside from taking a stand, it was also my way of giving the Grant family a way to survive. After all, this entire mess was caused by Miles Grant and his secretary. No one else was involved.
After mulling it over, Griffin gave me a firm nod.
“We’ll do it your way, Ms. Jackman. Tomorrow, I’ll hold a press conference as the head of the Grant family and publicly announce that

I’m cutting all ties with Miles,” he declared.
Miles tried to protest one last time. However, nothing he said could turn back time. This entire disaster began with him, so it had to end with him.
As for Cece, the one who triggered everything, she was quietly sent to Castria that very night. Given the way she had cussed out Commander Bayer on the phone, I doubted she would ever be allowed back in Seacrest again.
That night marked the end of Grant Enterprise. With just a few phone calls, a publicly listed conglomerate with thousands of employees vanished from existence, as though it had never existed at all.
After wrapping things up, I called my father. I purposely told him to make sure to set me up with someone more reliable next time. With that, my trip to Seacrest came to an end.
