Chapter 7
As the current head of the Grant family, Miles was livid.
“This is Seacrest! I don’t care how powerful she is. Even if she’s some big fish, this is someone else’s pond! I don’t care who you are. The Grant family will never let you off the hook!” he exclaimed.
I waved him off dismissively, ‘completely unbothered. “You’ve actually got it backward, Mr. Grant. It’s not about whether your family lets me go, but whether I can let you go.”
Cece was Miles‘ number one lapdog. As soon as I said this, she immediately stepped forward.
“You absolute bitch! How dare you talk to Mr. Grant like that? I’m going to end you today!” she shrieked.
With a wave of her hand, a dozen well–trained bodyguards instantly surrounded me. I noticed each of them wore a badge bearing Grant Enterprise’s emblem.
At the crucial moment, a voice rang out sharply from a distance. “Stand down, right now!”
A well–dressed, dignified–looking middle–aged man came rushing over. He was panting when he reached me.
“Ms. Jackman, I sincerely apologize for the fright you’ve been put through,” Griffin said.
He had gone as white as a sheet when he saw what was happening.
“I’m not too late, am I?” he asked.
I looked down at my watch. 20 minutes had passed, on the dot.
“Perfect timing, Mr. Griffin. Your precious son was just about to raise a hand to me,” I replied.
With sincere remorse, Griffin took action immediately.
A loud smack rang out. Miles‘ face now bore a fresh red imprint of a hand.
“You fool! Do you have any idea what you’ve done? Hurry up and apologize to Ms. Jackman!” Griffin chastised.
Miles was visibly stunned by the slap, and he looked at his father in confusion.
“Dad, have you gone senile? Why did you hit me? She’s the one who disrespected you and looked down on our family! Why are you disciplining me over an outsider?” Miles questioned.
My anger cooled slightly as I watched this scene unfold. However, that alone wasn’t enough. The Grants still owed me an explanation.
Griffin glared furiously at Miles and slapped him again.
“You still have the nerve to ask why? Ms. Jackman naturally has her reasons for her actions. Who are you to question her?” Griffin scolded Miles.
He turned to me and smiled in a conciliatory manner. Then, he faced the crowd again.
“Effective immediately, any employee who laid a hand on Ms. Jackman today is fired! There will be no exceptions!” he declared.
I had to admit that the founder of Grant Enterprise handled things a lot more wisely than his son.
Griffin’s words were firm and decisive. However
up like this over an outsider.
Miles was still lost in a daze. He just couldn’t understand why his father would blow
Unfortunately for Miles, only a select few knew the real reason. Coincidentally, Griffin happened to be one of them.
“Mr. Griffin, why the harsh reaction? This woman clearly disrespected your family. Mr. Miles was just trying to defend the Grant family name. Sure, she may be somebody, but this is still Seacrest. At the very least, Grant Enterprise has an image to protect,” Cece argued.
The crowd nodded in agreement with her remark, but Griffin’s next move shocked everyone.
“You’re my son’s personal secretary, aren’t you? Well, consider this your official notice. You’re fired!” he exclaimed.
Griffin has been out of the business world for years. Because of this, outsiders might think he didn’t grasp the current power dynamics. However, I knew better.
Griffin was making one last–ditch effort to protect the Grant family.
