Lucas and Hannah stepped out of the hospital room once again, fingers laced together. Just ahead, a graceful silhouette caught both their eyes as she walked down the corridor.
Hannah’s brows pinched slightly as she instinctively glanced at Lucas.
At the nurse’s station, Stella approached with a polite smile. “I’m the family member from Room 1004. Someone called me to pick something up?”
There was, of course, nothing to be picked up.
The head nurse, scrambling for a cover, grabbed a pamphlet from the counter and handed it over with a forced smile. “Here–this is for you. It’s standard for all patients and their families.”
Stella glanced through it. It was just a promotional brochure for Harmony Hospital. Given the stiff competition among hospitals these days–especially with public ones often outperforming private ones–she didn’t think much of it. It made sense for the hospital to hand out materials like this.
“Thanks,” she said, flashing a radiant smile.
The nurse couldn’t help but feel her mood lift. No one could resist a pretty girl smiling. But the moment she turned, she saw Lucas and Hannah walking down the hallway, hand in hand, and her good mood vanished on the spot.
Stella’s pale fingers held the brochure casually at her side. When she turned and saw the pair, her expression dropped just as quickly.
The leads of a melodrama had just stepped into the supporting character’s scene. Classic.
Lucas caught her gaze and immediately slowed to a stop. Subtle hand–holding morphed into a display of interlocked fingers, the kind meant to make a point. He stared directly at Stella, even arching a brow as if to provoke her.
Stella rolled her eyes so hard it was a miracle they didn’t fall out of her head.
What was that supposed to be? Showing off that he’d found a new girlfriend the moment they broke up? Nobody cared.
Even Hannah, who’d seen more than her fair share of beautiful women in the entertainment industry, had to admit Stella was stunning. The moment she laid eyes on her, a flicker of unease stirred in her gut. Lucas wasn’t exactly known for loyalty–his reputation as a

womanizer was infamous. What if he fell for this girl?
But when Stella turned her head, Lucas didn’t let go. Instead, he gripped her hand even tighter.
Hannah felt a wave of reassurance. Lucas had clearly fallen for her. The playboy had finally settled down. She was the one who’d tamed him.
Still, she hadn’t expected the eye–roll. But considering the circumstances—their brief entanglement and her lie to Stella’s brother–it wasn’t exactly surprising.
Lucas, on the other hand, was delighted. That eye–roll was proof. She was jealous. That meant she still cared.
You had your chance. I tried to make it work. But you pushed me away. So don’t blame me now.
Stella didn’t bother playing along. She had no interest in watching the Lucas–and–Hannah show. She brushed past them without a word and returned to the hospital room.
Once inside, she sat down and went right back to reviewing problems on her phone. Moments later, Ethan’s message arrived.
“I’ve got something tonight, can’t pick you up. Mr. Foster will give you a ride home.”
Stella’s reply came fast. “Why’d you ask him? I could’ve just called a cab. Don’t trouble him for something like this.”
“It’s on his way. It’s not a bother. And I don’t feel comfortable with you taking a taxi alone at night.”
“Then hire me a dedicated driver. It’ll make school commutes easier too.”
“I’ll get it arranged.”
After wrapping up the chat with Stella, Ethan sent another message–this one to Louis Jimmy.
“Got a job for you tonight.”
It was clear now: Lucas couldn’t keep his mouth shut. If he opened it in front of Stella, everything would fall apart. One more step was needed.
Meanwhile, Lucas, having successfully let Stella see him and Hannah holding hands, had returned to his room and was now glued to his phone. He waited. And waited. But the message never came. Stella didn’t add him on WhatsApp.

Lucas frowned. She was just too stubborn. Too proud. She couldn’t bring herself to admit she cared.
Fine. He’d take the first step. He’d go to her and offer a chance to talk.
Hannah had fallen asleep after the exhausting day. Lucas tiptoed out of the room, but just as he stepped into the hall, he spotted a flash of white slipping through the door to Room 1004.
He hadn’t seen Nathan in years–not properly, anyway. But even from behind, even in a fleeting moment, Lucas recognized him instantly.
That man in the white suit, calm and elegant on the outside, was rotten to the core. At least in Lucas’s eyes.
Of course he’d come. Always hovering, always clinging to Stella.
She’d never fall for someone like him. Never.
The door closed behind Nathan.
Lucas stepped forward, ready to follow him in.
But just as his hand reached for the doorknob, another hand grabbed his wrist.
