Chapter 95 Shadows of the Past
But he wasn’t going to rush over without knowing exactly what was going on.
When Stella had first returned, he’d kept track of her every move.

But ever since she’d met with Lucas, he’d forced himself to hold back that darkness inside him.
Knowing too much only tormented him.
But now… now he had to know.
He didn’t respond to Ethan’s WhatsApp right away. Instead, he closed the app.
After a few seconds of hesitation, he made a call.
It connected quickly. “Hello, boss!”
Nathan spun around in his executive chair, long legs casually crossed, now facing the floor- to–ceiling window.
The afternoon sunlight was still piercingly bright. He raised a hand to block it, his voice calm and flat. “Tell me everything that happened today. Every detail.”
The moment those words left his mouth, his heart began to pound, a shadow rising in his
eyes.
For a second, it felt like he’d been thrown back to their days at Ashford High.
In the cafeteria, that radiant, glowing girl sat across from Lucas, eating lunch with him.
And he sat in the corner, silently watching their every move.
Every smile she gave was like a needle stabbing straight into his heart.
She smiled so beautifully… but those smiles were meant only for Lucas.
He had to admit it–they looked perfect together. Handsome boy, pretty girl, young heirs, the ideal couple.
And he… he was just a roach in the gutter, burning with jealousy, wishing he could kill Lucas.
But so what if he killed Lucas? There will still have someone else to take his place.

The bodyguard’s voice came through: “Ms. Stella arrived this morning in Ethan’s secretary’s car. Not long after she entered the hospital room, a celebrity named Hannah went in. Not long after that, Lucas arrived at the hospital too.”
“Lucas went to the ward area and hugged Hannah. The two of them had been rumored to be dating, and now the internet says they’re officially together. She got into a car accident today -fractured one of her arms.”
“After that, Lucas brought her to the ward next door. They came out once, holding hands, and passed right in front of Ms. Stella’s room. Ethan closed the door when they did.”
“In the afternoon, Ethan, his assistant, the secretaries, and Jimmy–the fourth Marshall sibling–left. Only Ms. Stella, the patient, and a nurse remained in the room.”
“Lucas spent the entire day with Hannah. Not sure if one of them has constipation or what, but they’ve been pacing the hallway back and forth all afternoon.”
“That’s everything so far.”
The two bodyguards were tall and stood out easily.
Even though they were professionally trained, they couldn’t get too close, so all of their intel came from observation.
They made sure to confirm everyone’s name and background beforehand in case the boss asked. –
Nathan listened to the report in one breath, his fingers tightening around the phone until they turned pale. A storm cloud settled between his brows.
So Lucas’s rumored girlfriend went to Stella’s hospital room today.
And when Lucas arrived, he chose to stay with his rumored girlfriend instead.
Lucas didn’t stand by Sparkle.
He was despicable. He didn’t deserve her love!
Sparkle must be heartbroken right now…
So then Ethan’s reason for asking him to come over was-
A guess surfaced in Nathan’s mind, his handsome brow lowering slightly.

Chapter 95 Shadows of the Past
Ethan had figured it out.
He knew Nathan liked Sparkle!
Despite all his restraint… Ethan had seen right through him.
So was Ethan trying to help him?
Because logically, now would be the perfect time for someone to swoop in.

The phrase swoop in while she’s vulnerable made Nathan pause. The next second, a flash of wild excitement burned behind his glasses.
Could he?
Could he really swoop in now?
Should he try?
Maybe he could replace Lucas in her heart.
He wasn’t that powerless teenager anymore.
He loved her more than Lucas ever could.
He would always choose her.
Just the possibility that Sparkle might come to love him—just maybe—was enough to make the man in the pristine white suit start to burn with heat, his chest rising and falling with labored breath.
Without realizing it, his left hand curled into a fist, reopening the wound in his palm. The – pain was sharp enough to snap him back into control.
He was still a dark, twisted man. He didn’t deserve Sparkle.
But Lucas?
Lucas deserved her even less.
As his breathing steadied, Nathan slowly closed his eyes. His long lashes cast shadows over his sculpted face.
“I understand,” he said to the bodyguard.
