Chapter 71 A Surprise in the Making
Chapter 71 A Surprise in the Making
He looked at least fifty or sixty.
That old and still having kids?
Talk about still going strong.
“Yes, yes, I’m happy to serve you! What would you like for lunch?” the chef asked.
Finally meeting the legendary Ms. Stella–she really was stunning.
“Just stir–fry a few dishes, I’m not picky,” Stella said with a smile.
Then her eyes shifted. “Could you teach me how to cook a few dishes?”
Why would a pampered young lady who’d never touched a spatula suddenly want to learn?
Of course, it was because she wanted Nathan’s help.
Her disastrous house–buying experience had taught her–when you ask for a favor, you need to come prepared.
Nathan might seem gentle and refined, but when it came to favors, he wasn’t guaranteed to agree.
After all, why should anyone help her for nothing?
She needed to show some sincerity first.
Right now, Louis‘ situation was extremely important to her.
Aside from cooking a meal for Nathan, she couldn’t think of anything else meaningful she could do.
The man lacked nothing.
The chef glanced at the butler standing behind Stella.
From what he’d heard, the boss personally cooked for Ms. Stella every day.
The thought of teaching her to cook made him a little uneasy.
Following the chef’s gaze, Stella looked at the butler.
She grinned. “Is that okay?”
The butler had no idea why the chef was looking at him–what was there to hesitate about?
If Ms. Stella wanted to set the kitchen on fire, they’d have to help her light the match!
“Of course, of course. Just tell Landon what you want to learn. He’s a five–star chef and skilled in every cuisine!”
Then Stella added, “Also, don’t tell your boss I’m learning to cook. Lwant it to be a surprise.”
“What? You want to cook for my boss?” the butler blurted, eyes wide.
She hadn’t expected such a reaction. “Uh, yeah. Don’t tell me he refuses to eat food made by others?”
“Impossible! He’ll eat, he’ll eat! He’ll be over the moon!” The butler was practically giddy.
Was this it? Was the boss finally getting somewhere?
Was this going to be mutual at last?

The butler almost teared up, and when Stella gave him a slightly startled look, he realized himself and quickly explained, “You’re the first woman to ever cook for my boss, so I’m a little excited.”

Stella shook her head. “That’s impossible. There are so many women who like him–plenty must have brought him food. You just didn’t see it.”
The butler didn’t argue. “Maybe, maybe.”
But in his heart, he thought, That’s different.
Back when the boss liked a girl, she’d once made him a fish–and he’d kept the fish bone to this day.
Hearing that the meal was for the boss, the chef perked up with full energy.
“Ms. Stella, today I’ll teach you everything I know.”
Stella smiled. “Thanks, I’ll do my best to learn.”
She spent the entire afternoon in the kitchen with the chef.
The butler even set up background music on repeat.
“Today is a good day, everything you wish will come true…”
SS Capital, President’s Office.
A striking man in a white suit listened as an executive gave a report.
Sunlight poured in through the floor–to–ceiling windows, catching on the gold bamboo–bead bracelet on his wrist, making it gleam.
“Mm.” Nathan nodded after hearing the report. “Proceed as planned for now.”
The executive closed the file, glancing several times at Nathan’s wrist, dying to ask why he’d ditched his multimillion–dollar watch for a little gold bracelet.
He was just working up the nerve to ask when-
The phone on the desk rang.
Nathan glanced at the screen, then gestured for the executive to leave. “If that’s all, you can go.”
The executive swallowed his curiosity. “Of course.”
Nathan picked up the phone, the cool surface against his ear.
A voice came through. “Boss, Ms. Stella went to Trinity High this morning, then to the slums. When she came out, she was with Lucas-”
“That’s enough. You don’t need to report the rest. Just make sure she’s safe.”
Behind his glasses, Nathan’s gaze darkened, the tips of his fingers whitening around the phone.
Seven p.m.
A gray Rolls–Royce pulled into the villa’s courtyard.
The staff were still on duty.
The moment Nathan stepped out, everyone could sense something was off.
The man in the white suit wore a stormy expression, his entire presence radiating a cold, heavy air.
