Chapter 68 Searching for Louis
Chapter 68 Searching for Louis
His eyes went wide when he saw the two menacing faces of the big men.
He opened his mouth to shout-
Two heavy punches landed, and he slumped to the ground unconscious.
Stella didn’t notice, nor did she care to waste time on irrelevant people. She stepped inside.
Nancy followed, full of admiration. “I really didn’t see that coming–you’re amazing.”
All along, she’d thought she was the one protecting Stella.
Turns out it was Stella protecting her. She could cry,
Stella grinned. Just average. Third place in the world.”

The apartment couldn’t have been more than fifty or sixty square meters, but it had been hacked into six tiny cubicles.
Only one of them had its door open–probably belonging to that fat man from before.
The rest were all closed.
“I’ll knock, Nancy said.
Working for Stella was an honor.
The first door opened to reveal a gaunt, sallow–faced woman. “Who are you looking for?”
Stella stepped up with a smile. “Do you know which room Jimmy lives in? He’s a high schooler, long hair covering his eyes.”
Living under the same roof, seeing each other every day, she should know.
“Oh, that kid? He and his mom moved out around three or four this morning”
Stella frowned. “Do you know where they went?”
The woman shook her head. “No idea.
Just my luck,” Stella muttered with a bitter smile.
That brat–once she found him, she’d make sure to give him a taste of the Seven Wolves.
The woman didn’t catch her meaning, only sighed. “They didn’t have much choice. Last night some guy came and made a scene–beat his mom half to death. The kid got hurt too.”
“What?” Stella’s eyes widened. “Some guy? Was it Jimmy’s father?”
The woman shook her head “Don’t know. They’ve been here for years, never seen a father show up.”
Stella’s bright eyes dimmed.
It seemed Louis’s situation was even more complicated than she thought.
When they came out of the building. Stella was still turning over Louis’s case in her mind, not noticing that the fat man On the stairs had vanished.
The air outside was fresher. Stella took a deep breath.
This place is huge. Hard to find anyone, right?” she asked.
Nancy nodded “Yeal. Two to three hundred thousand people live here. Someone could be holed up in any corner”

“Is there a police station? Can I file a report?” Stella asked.
With a mentally unstable adoptive mother in tow, Louis probably wouldn’t move out of the slum.
Living outside would cost several times more.

“You can file one, but the cops might not take it seriously.” Nancy said. “There’s fights and trouble here every day–they can’t keep up.”
Stella’s gaze
drifted to a noodle shop across the way, where several cockroaches strolled openly across the floor.
Her long lashes lowered, casting a delicate shadow beneath her eyes.
Nathan had a charity fund here. And if he really came from this place-
Maybe he could help.
If he called the police station himself, they might actually pay attention.
Stella wasn’t someone who liked asking for favors. She preferred to handle things herself.
But when there was no other way, asking might be the fastest route.
She’d ask him tonight.
They were almost at the edge of the slum when they saw a flashy sports car parked by the road.
Lucas, dressed in a blue suit, went wide–eyed when he saw Stella.
He’d gone to Trinity High, then heard from the private investigator that she’d gone to the slum./
He had no idea why she’d be here of all places.
But he hated the slum, so he’d waited outside.
Finally, she appeared. His breath caught. Striding toward her, his voice shook. “Stella!”
Stella hadn’t expected to run into Lucas here.
It was the first time she’d seen him since coming to this timeline. His hairline was higher, hair thinner, and he felt strangely unfamiliar
As he drew closer, Stella wasn’t sure what to say. She gave a light smile. “Lucas. Long time no see. Where’ve you been making your fortune lately?”
Everyone in his circle had known how Lucas had chased her all three years of Ashford High School
