Chapter 62 A Clash Over the Phone
He simply couldn’t be bothered to take over the family business–it felt like too much work.

“Forget it,” Hannah said. “If you call him, he’ll never admit to bothering me. He can’t do anything to you, but there’s plenty he could do to a small–time actress like me.”
The words were loaded with mplication. Calling wouldn’t solve anything. If he wanted to eliminate the problem at its root, he’d have to go after Starlight Group.
Lucas pulled her close. “You’re not some small–time actress. You’re my woman. Now give me his number–I know what I’m doing.
A glint flashed in Hannah’s eyes.
Lucas was going to stand up for her. Ethan was done for.
She hesitated just enough to seem reluctant, then handed over Ethan’s number.
Lucas lit a cigarette. ‘T’ll give him a little lesson. You go upstairs and shower.”
Hannah wanted to hear exactly what Lucas would say, but standing there and pretending to be the gracious, understanding one was exhausting.
“Alright, just don’t go too far. 11 head up first.
Once she’d gone upstairs, Lucas stepped outside the villa to make the call.
As
s soon as the line connected, he demanded, “Ethan, where’s your sister?”
The road from Nathan’s villa back to the city was a quiet stretch of mountain highway.
There was no music playing in the car yet, so the unfamiliar voice came through sharp and grating.
The tone dripped with accusation.
Ethan’s brows knit. His voice was cold. “Who is this?”
Lucas hadn’t expected Ethan not to recognize him. He was a household–name movie star, after all.
“It’s Lucas. Where’s your sister? Put her on the phone.”
The arrogance in his voice made Ethan let out a short, cold laugh.
“Lucas? Never heard of you.”
His long, slender fingers tapped the end call button, and he tossed the phone onto the passenger seat.
People really couldn’t be compared.
Lucas was just a movie star and already so arrogant.
Look at Mr. Foster–now there was real power and status and he never carried himself like this.
Still, something felt off. Why was Lucas calling him instead of contacting Stella directly?
Could it be he didn’t have her number?
That had to be it
The phone rang again. Ethan was going to hang up, but decided to answer.
His voice was icy, direct. “Don’t go looking for my sister, and don’t bother her. Or I won’t be polite about it”

If he couldn’t talk his sister out of liking this scumbag. then at least he could make sure the scumbag stayed away from her.
Lucas hadn’t expected Ethan to speak to him like that. Rage surged. He took a drag of his cigarette and snapped, What, a few years as a CEO and now you think you can threaten me? I’ll let that slide. Where’s your sister? I’ll ask you one more time.”
The headlights cut through the darkness of the mountain road. Ethan drove slowly, his voice glacial. “That’s none of your business.
He was about to hang up when-
“Is your sister with Nathan Lucas’s voice came, sharp and impatient.
Ethan’s rosary–wearing hand gripped the wheel, fingertips tapping lightly. The black beads blended almost seamlessly with the night.
Would Lucas even dare confront Mr. Foster?
Ethan’s eyes flickered. Yes. They’re living together.”
It was just a simple sentence, but after saying it, sweat prickled in his palm.
Part of him hated spreading such a rumor about his sister–she was only eighteen, and the idea of her cohabiting with a man could easily be taken the wrong way.
And he didn’t want to tarnish Mr. Foster’s name either.
But right now, this was the only way to make Lucas back off and never trouble Stella again.
Lucas, however, didn’t believe it for a second.
“Impossible! Stella would never like Nathan. She only likes me!”
It might ha
have been the truth, but it still made Ethan’s skin crawl.
“Don’t have a mirror at home? Try a puddle.”
Beep, beep, beep-
The call cut off
Veins stood out along Lucas’s neck as he took one last deep drag from his cigarette, then ground it out hard under his heel
He didn’t believe a word Ethan had said.
Ethan had always been hostile toward him–so hostile that Lucas sometimes wondered if Ethan had pursued Hannah purely
out of dislike for him.
The night breeze was cool against his face. Lucas ran a hand through his hair.
A thousand questions churned in his mind.
How did Stella suddenly reappear?
And that was before he’d even seen her in the video
