Chapter 61 A Call from the Past
“Alright. Mr. Foster. You two should get some rest—I’ll be going”
Stella waved Drive safe, take your time

Once in the car, Ethan started the engine, his rosary–wearing hand turning the wheel as he glanced at the villa’s already closed gate
Even if he suspected Mr. Foster might have feelings for Stella, he wasn’t too worried.
First be trusted Mr. Foster’s character. A man devoted to charity, known for his warmth and spotless reputation, wasn’t going to treat Stells with disrespect.
Second, even if he wanted to worry, it wouldn’t change anything. Would Mr. Foster let him move in too, just to keep an eye on things!
Obviously not
What he really wondered now was–how did his sister feel about Mr. Foster?
He’d have to find a time to ask her.
He took his eyes off the gate and eased onto the mountain road.
But barely after starting his phone rang.
He picked it up with one hand and saw it was an unfamiliar Ashford number.
Sliding to answer, be heard a male voice he didn’t recognize.
That afternoon. Lucas had returned from Ashford High to his villa in Ashford
He’d lost count of how many friend requests he’d sent Stella.
The first with the note: “Lucas
The second Stella it’s Lucas
The turd Pirase accept, Stella. I miss you?
more unc after another, each with some variation
But all of them had vanished in the void without a reply.
as was staring in suspect Nathan had restricted her phone somehow.
There was nothing that humatic wouldn’t do
By reening Hannah had returned from Southville to Ashford and come straight to his villa.

“Lawas, what was so urge this morning that you had to leave in such a rush?” Hannah asked, a bit annoyes.
Lounging on the sofa, Lawas frowned It was about my brother I had to come back
Better nut to tell Hannah 190 nuach
If she kure, it would just lead to another tight
By now, he had figured out why Stella was refusing his friend requests.
She must have seen those tabloid rumors and gotten mad.

Which was perfectly reasonable.
She’d been declared dead. Was he really expected to stay single for the rest of his life?
No one could do that.
Not even Nathan.
Nathan might not have dated yet, but times had changed–people were marrying later. Life was long.
If Stella hadn’t come back, eventually he would’ve gotten married and had kids too.
But her getting upset over it was actually a good sign.
It meant she still liked him. Liking him enough to be jealous.
If WhatsApp wouldn’t get her attention, he’d just have to find another way to reach her
Ethan was her brother–Lucas had known that for years.
Back in high school, her three brothers would often come pick her up after class.
And all three had been openly hostile toward him.
To be fair, his mother had opposed him liking Stella too.
Three brothers, no parents–the Marshall family’s company was surely unstable.
Dating Stella would’ve meant helping raise three younger brothers. Nothing but dead weight..
But he’d gone after her anyway, ignoring his mother’s objections.
They were just brothers, after all. If he could win Stella over, he could persuade her to cut them off.

Who would’ve thought that two of those brothers would become successful, with only the youngest’s fate still uncertain!
Which, frankly, was the ideal outcome.
No more raising her brothers for Stella.
“Do you still talk to Ethan? Lucas turned to ask Hannah.
Her heart skipped a beat. “No”
Of course Lucas was worried she might still be in touch with Ethan.
Leaning against him, she spoke softly. I told you before I don’t like him. He insisted on investing in my film, my agent accepted, and I couldn’t refuse. He messages me all the time, but I never reply. My heart’s always belonged to you, Lucas.”
Lucas patted her hand. “Do you have his number?”
Hamal’s eyes flickered.
Was he planning to call Ethan to warn him off?
She pressed her lips together. “You shouldn’t contact him. He’s a big CEO–we can’t afford to offend him.”
Lucas scoffed. “Big CEO or not, he’s nothing compared to the Brooks family”
