Chapter 57 The Trail Leads to Trinity
Chapter 57 The Trail Leads to Trinity
“Do you think he’s still mad at me for losing him back then?”
If he hadn’t gone to buy drinks, or taken them to the park at all, Louis wouldn’t have gone missing.
Stella felt her heart sink slightly.
She’d completely forgotten that losing him might be the biggest wedge between them.

“But it wasn’t on purpose,” she said. “And Louis doesn’t seem like the kind of person to misplace blame. You kept looking for him all these years. And he’s been in Ashford–if he wanted to come back, it would’ve been easy.”
There had to be another reason.
Ethan instinctively fiddled with the black rosary bracelet on his right wrist and exhaled in frustration. “So he was in Ashford this whole time, just refusing to come home. Then… is he doing okay? How has he been living?”
Just thinking about that chubby little kid made Ethan feel awful.
Louis had always been the youngest, but also the most sensible.
After the maid left, he’d taken over the kitchen duties. That round little Louis was always helping out on the side.
He’d only been three or four at the time.
One time, he bit into an onion thinking it was an apple, tears pouring down his face like a waterfall. He still managed to say. “Ethan, this apple tastes terrible. Don’t buy it again–Stella won’t like it”
Seeing how upset Ethan was, Stella took a sip of milk tea and said, “He’s studying at Trinity High now. I haven’t had time to ask much else. Let’s go over there and see what we can find out.”
They needed to understand why he didn’t want to come home before they tried reaching out.
The black Bentley moved smoothly down the road, merging with traffic on the way to Trinity High.
Neither Stella nor Ethan had ever been there before, and they weren’t familiar with the school.
When they arrived at the gates, no one stopped them–they drove straight in.
The location was more remote than Ashford High, which was in the city center, Trinity High was on the outskirts,
The campus was decently sized, but the buildings looked old and worn. There was trash scattered on the ground.
The overall atmosphere definitely needed improvement.
There were hardly any students around.
After parking, Stella got out and walked up to a green–haired student.
“Hi there. Could you tell me where the teachers‘ offices are?”
The green–haired guy pushed his bangs aside. When he saw Stella’s face, a smile curled on his lips. “Gorgeous, it’s Sunday. There aren’t any teachers here”
Stella wrinkled her nose “You guys don’t have evening study sessions on Sundays?”
At Ashford High, Sunday evenings always had study hall.
The green–haired guy laughed, like she’d just told him a joke. “Barely anyone shows up for study hall during the week, let alone Sundays?
Stella blinked Alright, then Do you know a student named Jimmy?

He nodded. “Who doesn’t? He’s the boss around here”
The sun was harsh overhead, making it hard to keep her eyes open.
Stella’s smile grew even brighter. “Hey, handsome, why don’t we go chat under that tree?”
The green–haired guy practically melted at the word handsome. “Sure!”
Under the tree, he instinctively pulled out a cigarette and was about to light it.
Ethan, who’d been silently following behind and keeping his presence minimal, finally spoke up. “Don’t smoke.”
His sister didn’t like the smell.
The green–haired guy flinched at Ethan’s sudden pressure and quickly tucked the cigarette away.
But Stella smiled and said, “It’s fine. Go ahead and smoke.”

Sure, plenty of high school boys snuck cigarettes here and there–but this was the first time she’d seen one so brazenly light up in the middle of school.
Trinity High was something else.
She turned to Ethan. “Go buy us some drinks. We’ll wait here.”
The green–haired kid clearly felt stressed with Ethan around.
And Ethan never questioned her. He simply nodded and left to buy water.
He understood–they were the ones asking questions. They couldn’t expect cooperation if they brought pressure.
His sister had sacrificed too much for his sake.
The green–haired guy watched Ethan walk off, obedient as ever. He automatically assumed the guy was Stella’s bodyguard.
Calling her “sis” was probably just a respectful nickname.
The kid really needed that cigarette. Once Ethan was out of sight, he lit up immediately.
The smoke drifted between them, acrid and strong.
Stella frowned slightly but said nothing. Instead, she asked, “Hey, handsomewhat class is Jimmy in?”
“Class Six. Why are you asking about him?”
Stella made something up on the spot. “He won a
ketball game at Ashford High today. I thought he was impressive. Oh,
and I heard he once knocked out two of Trinity High’s principal’s teeth. What happened there?”
