Chapter 34 A Night of Iodine and Woodsmoke
Chapter 34 A Night of lodine and Woodsmoke
It was like watching a character in a movie get gutted–she felt the pain herself.
She was the type who couldn’t watch the needle go in when getting a shot.

“This fork’s stainless steel, right? I don’t think you’ll get tetanus… but maybe we should call your private doctor, just in case?”
Nathan chuckled lightly. “It’s nothing serious. No need to call the doctor.”
He said that, but made no move to pull his hand away.
Even with his heartbeat thundering in his ears, he wanted Sparkle to hold his hand a little longer.
It was the first time Stella had ever injured someone to the point of bleeding, and she was flustered. “Really? It looks pretty bad to me.
Nathan’s gaze stayed fixed on her porcelain–white face, watching the faint tremble of her lashes. His tone softened even more. “It’s fine. Just a little iodine will do.”
“Where’s the iodine? I’ll get it,” she said, lifting her head.
Up close, she noticed the refined, handsome man’s face was slightly flushed.
His ears, too–red enough to bleed
She blinked, only then realizing she’d been holding his hand the entire time.
Seriously? He’s twenty–nine, and holding hands made him blush?
What a pure, innocent man, She thought privately, but didn’t let go.
After all, she’d injured him–she couldn’t just walk away from that
Nathan’s eyes flicked toward the cabinet under the TV, then he shook his head. “We don’t have any here. I’ll order some delivery.”
“I’ll do it,” she said quickly, gently dabbing the blood away with a tissue. “Don’t move your hand.”
Placing his hand carefully on the sofa, she grabbed her phone and opened the delivery app.
Aher more than a week in this world, she was well–adjusted–spending her days in Ethan’s office, ordering up to three cups of
milk tea
She added cotton swabs and bandages to the iodine order.
The villa was in a remote spot, so it cost extra before a rider would take the job.
By the time it arrived, it was already eleven at night.
Normally, she’d have been in her room by then, but not tonight
She carefully dabbed iodine onto the tiny wound.
The cool sting made Nathan’s hand flinch back on reflex.
Stella tipped her chin up to look at him, her eyes bright and clear. “Does it hurt? I’ll be gentler.”
Adjusting his silver–rimmed glasses with his other hand, he shook his head. “It doesn’t hurt”
His body was hot, but his hand was cool
It was fire and ice, and his throat felt dry.

The girl was so close, all her attention on him.
It made him feel almost weightless, as if walking among clouds.
The faint sting on his hand was nothing—if it meant keeping her attention, he’d gladly endure far worse.
His fingers were long and well–defined, nails trimmed smooth, the tips with a soft pink hue.
When she finished, the reddish–yellow of the iodine looked almost comical against his perfect pale skin.
The bandage she pressed over it somehow carried a rugged kind of sensuality,
It made her pulse pick up.
Suddenly, she became aware that in the quiet of the night, the vast villa held only the two of them
Sitting side by side on the sofa, the space between them felt smaller.
The air carried the faint scent of iodine mingled with a cool, woody fragrance.
It was a little too intimate.
Her heartbeat quickened. She let go of his hand and blinked. “Don’t get this hand wet, or it might get infected.”
Nathan glanced at it and let a genuine smile touch his lips. “Alright.”
After her shower, Stella lay in bed, still annoyed at herself for getting so distracted with her phone.
Her big eyes stared at the ceiling.
She thought she’d discovered another one of Nathan’s strengths–his emotional composure.
The next morning, coming downstairs, she found Nathan in the kitchen again.
She sprinted over. “Why are you making breakfast again? You can’t get that hand wet”

Seeing the worry on her face, a trace of amusement warmed his eyes. “It’s fine–the butler will wash everything for me
The butler nodded. “Yes, yes, I’ll wash it,”
He didn’t know how his employer had hurt his hand, but he knew one thing–if Mr. Nathan had even one hand free, he’d never give up making breakfast for Ms. Stella.
What he’d thought was a once–in–a–while gesture had now been going strong for over a week, rain or shine.
